“She has the ability to see glimpses of the future or fragments of possibilities, as she would say.”

“Oh! She is a seer?” Aironell’s worded bubbled out. “I read about them in a book from the library.”

The queen nodded.

“When she held you,” King Francisco said, “we knew she saw something.”

“I begged her to tell us,” Queen Evalyn fiddled with the edge of the table. “Eventually she told us. She said what we made of it was up to us.”

Aironell’s head flinched back, a bit. That was an odd thing to say. “What did she tell you?”

Queen Evalyn stared at her for a moment. Aironell did not recoil. She wanted to know. No. She felt like she needed to know.

The king cleared his throat. Aironell looked over at him. “Sweetheart, she said that you were the hope for Bachusa, but things were not going to be easy. That you would have to fight for your rightful place on the throne. Which now we know that there is truth in that.”

Aironell nodded, slowly. Her life hadn’t been harmonious. The queen placed her hand under Aironell’s chin and gently lifted. Aironell gazed back at her mother.

“She also told your father and I what seems like a riddle of sorts.”

Aironell’s forehead creased as she waited. She rubbed her hand around her mouth and then placed her hands in her lap.

“Success is but a mystery. Elusive but not history. Two hearts bound, never to be undone. Protection will be key, but lost from the elusive, one.” Queen Evalyn spoke as if she had heard it just yesterday.

Aironell closed her eyes, trying to think.

“Was it too much?” King Francisco patted Aironell’s shoulder.

Aironell shook her head. “Sorry, I was just—”

“Trying to get your bearings?” He finished.

Aironell nodded.

“Darling, we wish we could fill in the blanks for you,” the queen said. “I could never convince my friend, Jezzabell, to explain or to say more.”

“Only time will tell,” King Francisco added. “You are our special little girl, no matter how old you get.” He smiled.

“We know that success is possible, that much is certain.” Queen Evalyn stood, leaned in, and kissed Aironell on the head.

“I appreciate the confidence, but it doesn’t make me feel any better.” Aironell stood. “The pressure of it all. The kingdom. The rebellion. It all rests on my shoulders.”

King Francisco strolled to her side and said, “Don’t worry. We are by your side, always.”

Aironell took a deep breath and nodded.

“Do you have any plans, today?” Queen Evalyn asked.

“I think I’m going to practice. After this discussion, I feel it couldn’t hurt.”

“Very good,” the king nodded.

“Later today, I will be spending some time with Alzerion. I just want you both to know.”

The queen beamed.

“Thank you,” King Francisco walked toward his wife and grasped her hand. “We have meetings to attend.”

Aironell watched as they left the room.
