“I’m okay. I’ll be fine. I’ll be able to return next season,” he says.

“That’s great news.” I smile. I want to jump into his arms and hug him, but I stop myself.

“It is,” he agrees with a nod and blinks.

“I’m just going to head down to Patty’s apartment for a bit. I have some explaining to do.”

“Do you need to tell her the truth?” he asks.

“I do. Is that okay?” I ask him back.

“I trust your judgment,” he replies.

“Look how far we’ve come,” I say jokingly.

“You’ve kind of earned our trust.” He shrugs. It doesn’t fly past me that he’s used Syd in that sentence too.

“It means a lot and you’ve earned mine too,” I return. Gosh, why does talking to this man turn into a flirt session where I am blushing?

“That means a lot to us.” He smiles and my heart just grows a little more and beats a tad bit faster for this man.

“Thanks, I’ll head out then.”

His eyes sweep over me.

“You’re going out like that?” he asks and his nostrils flare.

I nod. “It’s just Patty. I’m going to her apartment. I’m exhausted but I need to have a talk with her.”

“Okay. I just hope Brett isn’t in the elevator or Matt, for that matter,” he huffs.

I laugh. “Why’s that?”

“Because they’ll be ogling you,” he replies.

“You have a problem with your buddies checking me out?” I ask, knowing I am egging him on. I can’t help myself. He clearly wants me. Won’t take me but doesn’t want his friends to hit on me either. He can’t have it both ways.

He growls and runs his hands through his hair. “This is an impossible situation.”

“It doesn’t have to be.” I lick my lips.

“Adding sex to the equation is always complicated. My life is kind of in shambles right now,” he observes.

“Sex can be complicated, but it can also be hot. It can also relieve tension,” I remind, playing with him. I don’t know what’s gotten into me, other than I really enjoyed being cared for by him earlier and I want him, bad. He needs to give in to the sparks flying between us.

“You aren’t making this easy,” he groans, and his eyes roam over my bare legs. I’m thinking he’s a leg man. I’ve got long legs to show off.

“Easy is boring.” I shrug. “But I need to go. I’ll let you ponder that thought.”

“I bet you will.” He grins, and I take in his flushed cheeks, the increase rate of his breaths. Connor is turned on. He also has some strong-ass willpower.

“Have a good night.” I wave and wink and then I head to the front door where I have a pair of slides in the cabinet. I slip them on then head out, locking the door behind me.

I seem to enjoy getting a rise out of Connor. I can’t help myself. I head down the elevator and I am on my own in the car.

Hearing Connor say he doesn’t want his friends ogling me warms my insides, but I want him to make a move.

Before I know it, I’m standing at the door to Patty’s apartment. My heart is rioting in my chest. Patty is pragmatic. She doesn’t make hasty decisions. She considers all consequences, even if she did fall for a player on her father’s team. The point is she tried hard not to. What is she going to think of this crazy idea of Connor and I marrying?
