Connor

“Syd, are you ready?” I call out when I walk through the door.

My daughter runs out of her room wearing my jersey, along with a pair of jogging pants. Her hair is in pigtails.

“Don’t you look adorable,” I coo. “I want to pick you up and swing you around, but I can’t do that yet.”

“That’s okay, Daddy,” Syd says.

“You know I’m not playing tonight. I’m going to watch the game with you,” I explain since she is used to coming to the arena to watch me play.

“Can I still sit beside Crew?” she asks.

I don’t know if I am okay with her having another man in her life.

“I guess that will be fine,” I concede.

“You can sit beside Ellie. She is your girlfriend, right? I mean first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage. Does that mean I can have a sister or brother? Please, Daddy, please.” She puts her palms together and pushes out her lower lip.

Geez, she has never asked for a sibling before.

“This was the best I could do,” Ellie says, walking out of her room wearing a blue, red, and white shirt. She’s spreading her arms to the side and showing off her outfit. I don’t answer my daughter’s question because I am seriously thrown off.

“Nice of you girls to show support for the team,” I begin, hiding the jersey I brought home for Ellie behind my back.

“Go Rangers,” Ellie cheers. “I really know nothing about hockey so I’m winging it here.” “Then this jersey should come in handy,” I say, bringing the shirt in front of me and holding it up.

“Connor, did you get me a gift?” Ellie asks playfully. She looks excited, happy.

“I did.” I grin like a fool. I pass it to her.

She holds it up and reads the back. “Donaldson. Does that mean you’re marking me?” she asks playfully.

“It means you’re my woman and it’s kind of a thing for wives and girlfriends to wear their partner’s jersey,” I explain.

“You’re definitely marking me.” Ellie smirks victoriously.

“Fine, I’m marking you,” I admit dryly, but what I am really thinking is just how hard I can mark her. How flushed her creamy skin would get if we really fucked.

“Daddy, give her a kiss,” Syd urges.

“But I’m the one who gave her the gift. Shouldn’t she be giving me the kiss?” I argue with my daughter because I am so out of my element right now, I’m acting like I’m a six-year-old.

Ellie leans in and pecks my lips. I find myself licking my lips, even though the peck was brief.

“You girls ready to head out?” I ask, looking between them.

“Don’t you need to eat dinner?” Ellie asks. “There’s leftovers in the kitchen.”

“I grabbed a bite to eat with the guys. I should’ve texted you,” I say to her.

“No worries.” She shrugs. “Syd and I had a great time. Didn’t we?” she asks my daughter.

“Look, Daddy, we got our nails done the same color,” Syd announces.

“I see, Sweet Pea, I love it.”

“Me too,” Syd says.
