Officer Richards is leaning against one, though he stands up straighter as Valen enters, baring his neck to his Alpha. I see Amber sitting in a chair behind the hold desk. She glares at me, her eyes narrowed. Valen growls back at her, and she drops her head quickly.

“Alpha, I’ve spoken to him and he’s reassured me it won’t happen again,” Officer Richards says while shooting a glare at Amber.

“No, it won’t. I want them both kept here until after the Alpha meeting,” Valen says before turning to Amber. “In cells.”

Officer Richards nods to two men. Amber jumps up, shrieking at his words; the noise hurts my ears as they grab her. They drag her, kicking and screaming, toward the cell Micah is in while she throws a full-blown tantrum worse than a toddler. Valen growls and steps toward them before gripping her face.

“You can’t command me. You’re not my Alpha,” she sneers. I can see his rage as his entire body trembles, and the back of his shirt rips as he tries not to shift. Her eyes widen with fear, and I swallow, actually feeling bad for her despite the trouble she caused.

“Be glad I’m not because if I were, I would have stripped you of your title. But your mate is one of my pack and if you don’t get your ass in that cell, the only place you’ll see him is in the forsaken territory,” Valen snarls at her. She gasps, and her eyes flick to Micah in horror.

Valen shoves her face away, and the officers let her go. Officer Richards opens the cell, and she turns her nose up and walks in as if she wasn’t embarrassing herself while acting like a fool or just been humiliated.

Valen turns toward the cell where Micah sits, looking fearful. He’s bruised and bloody, but mostly healed from the beating he received from Marcus. Micah cowers when Valen turns his icy glare on him. Valen’s shirt is torn, and his skin ripples as he tries to contain himself.

“Consider yourself lucky, Micah, that your Luna is forgiving. You and I both know I am not. The only reason you are still breathing is because of her, so do you have anything to say?” Valen asks him.

Micah turns his head toward me, stutters out an apology, and thanks me for sparing him. I just stare in disbelief.

“Now, if either of you speaks one word of Everly being my mate to anyone, you and your entire families will be considered traitors and made forsaken. Am I clear?”

Amber looks at me but nods her head.

“Take their phones and print off the custody forms.”

“Custody forms?” Amber asks, standing up. Micah growls at her.

“Yes, Micah will sign over all parental rights for Casey to Zoe and drop the custody battle. I expect all relevant documentation to be filled out, signed, and filed when I return after the Alpha meeting.”

“After the Alpha meeting? I’m supposed to be attending!” she says.

“Tell your father you have food poisoning or something; I don’t care. But neither of you will leave this cell until after. If I hear one whisper around town that Everly is my mate, both of you will no longer live in this city,” Valen says, before turning to me. Officer Richards clears his throat, and Valen looks at him.

“Um, Alpha, if Micah signs all rights away, does that mean my wife and I can’t see her either? It would break my wife's heart, Alpha.”

“I never said he couldn’t see her, but I want it all legal, so he can’t take her from Zoe. If Zoe allows it, I don’t see an issue with any of you remaining part of Casey’s life, and that goes for Micah too. But if those papers aren't signed and sent off with a copy waiting when I return, I will send your son rogue and he will leave my city; that's if I don’t decide to kill him,” Valen warns.

“The relevant documents will be here when you return, Alpha. Thank you,” Officer Richards says before glaring at his son and Amber.

The other officers bare their necks, and Valen nods before tugging me out of the room and back down the corridor.

“Would you really make them forsaken?” I ask once back in the car.

“Yes. And yes, I would have killed him if you didn’t make me promise not to,” Valen answers. He tugs off his torn shirt and tosses it in the back before pulling away from the curb.

“Are we going to get Valarian now?”

Valen nods, but by the stern, steel gaze he has out the window and the burning rage I feel through the bond, I know he’s fighting with himself not to go back and tear Micah apart.

Just as we’re about to turn up the street toward Valen’s place, my phone rings. Macey’s name pops up on the screen, and I quickly answer it.

ChapterFifty-Seven

Everly

“I’ll be back soon,” I say immediately.

“No, it's fine. I got someone to cover you; I figured you were concussed. But Zoe isn’t answering and I’m on tonight, and mom has hurt her knee again, so she can’t watch both girls. Can you and Valen please, please, come to get Casey for the night?”
