I smiled, my heart feeling lighter than it had in a long time. “So have I, Theo. Despite being total opposites, I can’t deny that there’s something special between us.”

Theo leaned in closer, his breath warm against my ear. “I’m willing to bet that there’s a lot more we have yet to discover about each other.”

A shiver ran down my spine, and for a moment, I was acutely aware of the electricity in the air. The night held endless possibilities, and as I watched Theo’s eyes darken with desire, I couldn’t help but think about future intimate moments.

Theo’s eyes met mine, and a soft smile graced his lips. He leaned in, his lips brushing gently against mine, and the world seemed to melt away in that fleeting moment. The kiss was tender yet filled with a promise of something more, a promise that sent a shiver down my spine.

“I’ll see you at the ball tomorrow night,” he murmured against my lips, his voice a seductive whisper.

I nodded, my heart racing as I tried to find my voice. “Yes, the ball.”

Theo’s fingers trailed lightly along my cheek, leaving a trail of fire in their wake. His touch was intoxicating, and I couldn’t deny the magnetic pull he had on me.

With a final, lingering kiss, he pulled away, his eyes never leaving mine. I watched as he walked away, his confident stride disappearing into the night. He had a hold on me like no one ever had, and it both thrilled and terrified me.

As I closed the door behind me, I leaned against it, my thoughts a whirlwind of emotions. What was happening between Theo and me was uncharted territory. I was terrified.

I couldn’t deny that I was falling for him, and that thought scared me more than anything else. My entire life had been governed by a strict code of responsibility. But with Theo, it felt as if the boundaries were shifting.

I made my way to my room, the taste of his kiss still lingering in my mind. As I lay in my bed, I couldn’t help but fantasize about the future. We would get to sleep together. I went to bed with naughty thoughts starring Theo.

“Good morning,” Astrid sang out as she walked into my room.

“Good morning,” I said with a yawn. “You’re in a good mood.”

“I am. Aren’t you in a good mood?”

I broke into a smile. “I am. How was your night?” I asked her.

“Jack and I had a late dinner and then we went dancing,” she said.

“You did!”

“We did,” she said, smiling. “Do you know, that was my first date? A real date.”

I felt happy for Astrid. She deserved all the happiness in the world. As I got up from my bed, I stretched my arms and walked over to her. “I’m so glad you had a great time,” I said, giving her a quick hug.

“I did,” she said, her eyes shining with happiness. “And what about you? How was your night?”

I blushed, feeling a sudden warmth in my cheeks. “Yeah, it was good,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “He grilled steak for me and then he walked me home.”

“And?” she pushed. “Anything else?”

“We kissed,” I said, smiling. “I really like kissing him.”

“Then I guess the feelings didn’t go away after the little break.”

I slowly shook my head. “They most certainly did not. In fact, I feel like they might be real. Can you believe it? I actually have feelings for him.”

“Oh, I can believe it,” she said, laughing. “I’m just glad you’ve come around to reality.”

I grinned and rolled my eyes at her teasing. “Yeah, reality can be a good thing sometimes and not the kind of reality that means I’m all duty and honor.”

“Hey, if it means you get to be happy, then I’m all for it,” Astrid said, giving me a supportive smile. “So, what’s next for you and Theo?”

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “I know what he wants, and I think I’m getting closer to being on the same page with him. I was worried he was going to change his mind.”

“From what you’ve told me, he seems like a great guy. He’s not going to change his mind after a few days of not seeing you.”
