“Yes.” I swallowed. “She needs us in therenow. We need to get her out.”

Love’s hand was on my shoulder. “We’ve got to be—”

“You don’t understand.You don’t—!”

“I know, Drake.” Love cut me off as I cracked. “I know I don’t.” His ocean blue eyes were calmer than they should be. “Take a breath. We need you solid.”

I was shaking, but I nodded.

“Alright.” That was Leighton’s voice. “That’s it. He’s in. Go.”

LOVE

Nothing could prepare me for what it would be like, stepping into the Lightning pack’s house. We were unarmed, outnumbered, and out of time.

The others were vacant from the bond.

I got it. Panic could be infectious. But despite the urge to shut down my end, I remained in case they needed me, taking a breath and calming my nerves.

Any of them might need that calm at any moment.

We passed armed alphas at the doors, and my gaze slid to the guns at their belts. They were masked and clad in black as if ready for a fight.

They checked us for weapons and phones.

We’d brought none.

Get her out today. Those were Leighton’s final words to me.You get her out today or you might never see her again.

This pack was ahead of us at every turn, and now we were walking in, completely open. They were safe from the law because we’d never proven they’d bought Vex. They’d fought to protect that.

They still had a lot to lose, and whatever it was they were going to ask for, we’d give them.

Revenge.

I knew that was their ultimate goal.

They’d already forced us to blow up the Dragon Hunters contract. I was prepared to give up more. If they wanted us to lose everything, to suffer, to see our humiliation, I would give them all of it.

I didn’t care, not if it meant her safety. Wecouldn’tlose everything, not anymore. She was pack, and she’d shown us we already had the world if we had each other.

The rest paled beside it.

Let Zeus Rogan give me his stupid list. Then we’d take her and this would all be over.

I clung to that as I stepped into a grand living room. It was a massive space, with sprawling rugs, modern, sleek couches and a tall ceiling.

The pack awaited us at the far end of the room, in front of a roaring fireplace. They were standing but for Zeus, who was reclined in an armchair.

And she was there, with him.

Seeing her on his lap was like missing a step. My heart slipped out of rhythm for just a moment.

She wore a silken gown of red. It was elegant, and not her at all. Her hair was tied up in a bun, and… I stilled as my eyes slid to the silver collar around her neck. A thin chain hung from it, and Zeus had it wrapped in his fist.

The shot of fury from Ebony through the bond was the only thing that calmed the rage boiling my veins. I took a breath as I walked in ahead of the others.

I’d never, before this moment, been more glad for my brother.
