We would get her back and then he would find them. There was no leverage in the universe, not from me, nor anyone else, that would stop him.

Vex’s eyes were downcast, though she must know we’d entered by the way her frame tensed. I noticed Zeus’s touch drop to her waist possessively.

I fought the low growl in my chest, calming myself again. Ihadto stay calm for them. For her. So instead, as I approached, I forced myself to examine the pack.

Achlys’s gaze was fixed on us, Cerus was at the back, jaw clenched and expression dark, and Triton was leaning against Zeus’s chair, eyeing us all with a sneer.

There was… something wrong. I could sense it as Zeus lifted a hand, indicating that I’d come close enough. I was perhaps ten feet away.

Ten feet from her.

Her scent was in the air, raspberry and treacle.

She was afraid, but I could see she was fighting to hide it. Her fists balled in her lap, gaze still down.

“Love.” Zeus’s smile was broad, but I noticed that when his gaze passed over us all it lingered on Drake and skipped over Ebony.

“Welcome.”

“Skip the introduction,” I said evenly. I pulled the small black notebook from my pocket—the one he’d demanded we bring, and tossed it at his feet. “Tell us what you want.”

“And if this is a part of it?” he asked. “I’ve already seen how pathetic you are.” His eyes dropped to the book at his feet. “Desperate to make it up to your own mate after your arrogance destroyed her. Now I get to see all your pitiful faces as I claim what’s yours.”

He curled his fist around the chain, drawing her tighter against him.

It took everything in my power not to move.

Zeus leaned down, pressing his lips to her neck before baring his teeth, dragging them against her flesh.

I’d taken a step when her eyes snapped up to mine, stalling me. I noticed the tiniest shake of her head, her eyes were begging me not to react. I flooded our bond with forced calm, holding my hand up, jaw clenched.

It was as Zeus’s grip dropped and closed around her thigh, that Drake’s aura split the air. He stepped forward before any of us could move.

Triton reacted first.

“NO!”Vex’s cry broke my heart and adrenaline burned my veins as Triton pulled out a gun, drawing Drake up mid stride.

“D-don’t hurt him.” Vex’s voice broke.

Drake’s aura was still heavy in the air, as Triton pointed a gun right into Drake’s face, only a foot away.

“Get your dogs leashed, Love,” Zeus laughed.

“Drop the gun,” I ground out.

“Look at you, Magpie.” Triton sneered. “Back after all this time, and we have your pet.”

“Don’t fucking touch her.” Drake was shaking, eyes on Zeus.

“We can do this without her here,” I said.

“But she wants to be here,” Zeus said calmly. “Tell them you want to be here, Vex.”

“Stop it!” Drake snarled.

Vex said nothing, but she was tense, teeth drawing blood from her lip, her knuckles white with how hard she was squeezing her fists closed.

“Don’t hurt him.” Her voice was rough, thick with tears unshed. “Please, don’t hurt him.”
