“I need you to stay calm and trust that I’m going to fix this. Can you do that for me, babe?”

Her eyes go wide. “Okay, you’re officially scaring me now.”

“And I need you to not hate me, Lemon. Promise me that.”

“You’re really, really scaring me now. What is it?”

“Promise me you won’t hate me first.”

Her face softens, a sweet smile dancing on her lips. “I could never hate you. But you need to tell me what’s wrong before I freak out more than I already am.”

“Last night…”

“Yeah? What about last night?”

“Jasper saw us.”

“What are you talking about? Of course, he saw us. You spent the whole night with him. I danced with him. It’s fine. He doesn’t know anything.”

“Babe, he saw us in my truck.”

“What?” Her jaw drops, and her face is red. In an instant, all that creamy white skin of hers is as red as the beets she grows in my mom’s garden back at the farm. “Oh, my god! Noooo. Jasper saw us having sex? He saw my vagina? I can never look him in the face again. Ever.” She’s horrified and embarrassed, and I hate that I’m the reason she feels like this.

“No. Fuck no. I wouldn’t let that happen. No one sees that pretty pussy except me. But he saw me with my head under your dress, and he put two and two together.”

“And he assumed you tripped and fell on top of me?”

“Uhhh, no.”

“So, he assumed you were sucking venom out of a snake bite?”

“Also, no.”

“He assumed I lost an earring backing, it fell down my dress, and you were helping me find it?”

“With my tongue? No. I’m going to stop you there, Lemon. He assumed I was fucking you in the backseat of my truck. And he was right. I was.”

“Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god.”

“Jasper promised he won’t tell anyone. This doesn’t have to be a big deal. If he said he won’t tell anyone, then he won’t. But you deserved to know. And Lemon, please believe that I never meant for this to happen. I would never let anyone see you like that. And I know I was pressuring you about not sneaking around anymore. But I didn’t do this on purpose, I swear. Babe, I need you to believe me when I tell you I didn’t do this on purpose. Please.”

Jameson looks so scared it breaks my heart. Instantly, I’m up off the couch and walking across the room to him. I press my hands against the rough stubble on his cheeks.

“Hey. Hey. What are you talking about? I know you didn’t do this on purpose. You would never do that to me. I’m the idiot who begged you to have sex with me in a parking lot. What was I thinking? I was so stupid last night. I just needed to feel you inside me…” Shaking my head, I know exactly why I was so fucking stupid. Because I can’t get enough of him. I want him to fuck me anywhere and everywhere. And I want it to not matter who sees us.

But it does matter.

“If Jasper saw us, though… It’s only a matter of time until someone else does. Someone who won’t take it to the grave if we ask. We can’t keep doing this, Jameson.” Saying those words shatters me into a million shards of glass. But I know it’s what needs to happen. We have to stop.

Jameson’s jaw tenses in my hands. “Who cares if my brothers or the whole damn town know about us? I don’t.”

“Can you please be serious for once?”

“I am being serious. I don’t care who knows about us. You’re the one who wanted to sneak around. I never cared. Not from the first night I took you home from the Goldrush. And I sure as hell don’t care now.”
