“Oh, hmm.”

“Trust me, that way, you can build up the discourse between the two of you without there being that pressure of being face to face. Because who knows? Maybe Max and Finn have told him to back off because they don’t want you dating him or whatever.”

“Ooh, yeah. I never thought about that.” I nodded slowly. “But I don’t have his number.” I sighed. “And I can’t ask him for it in front of everyone.”

“True.” Lily looked thoughtfully around the room. “I wonder if we can find it somewhere.” She started moving around the room. “Or maybe we find his phone and you can text yourself from it.”

“Oh my gosh, what if someone caught me?” I shook my head. “No, that’s too risky.” I paused for a moment and then started dancing around. “I have an idea.”

“Ooh, what is it?” Lily looked excited. “You decided to go to his bedroom, after all?”

“No.” I laughed. “I can get the number from Polly’s phone. I know her password.” I grinned. “I’ll just get it from her address book, and then I will write it down.”

“Yass!” Lily grinned. “Perfect idea. And you can include a sexy pic with your first text, so he knows you’re not just trying to be friends or anything.”

“How sexy?” I raised an eyebrow, picturing myself in aPlayboy-esque pose.

“Nothing crazy to start with.” Lily giggled. “No need to spread your legs or anything. Something more sensual, rather than explicit.”

“Sure, that makes sense.” I grinned. “Okay, we need to go find Polly, and I need to get the number.”

“Let’s do it.” She nodded. “This is so exciting.”

“I agree.” I nodded. “I only hope that Travis responds to my text or I’m going to be really embarrassed.”

“He’ll respond.” Lily nodded enthusiastically. “Trust me. If he’s a red-blooded male, he will be salivating over your sexy photo.”

“Hey, Polly.”I tapped my sister on the shoulder. “Can I borrow your phone real quick? I can’t find my phone and need to text myself to see if I hear it.”

“Sure.” She nodded distractedly as she listened to Max talking about some boring case he was working on. I grabbed it from her eagerly and headed to the side of the garden, away from everyone else. I quickly opened her address book and searched for Travis. I pressed my lips together as nothing showed up. I quickly typed in his last name, Chandler, to see if that came up instead.

“Hey, how’s it going?” The man himself was standing in front of me, and I could feel myself blushing as I held Polly’s phone in my hand.

“Good, you really have some a beautiful home,” I said with a smile as he sipped from his beer can. “Really lovely.”

“Thank you.” He grinned. “I have to admit I did have an interior decorator helping me.”

“Oooh, awesome.” I almost groaned as I saw Polly headed toward me. I needed that number, and I needed it now. “One moment, please,” I said quickly to Travis as I glanced down at the screen. I saw the name Chandler on the screen with a number. Bingo. I stared at the number for a couple of seconds and tried to memorize it, and I knew I would forget. So I quickly pulled my phone out and copied the number and put it into my notes folder before pushing my phone back into my bag.

“So do you and the other girls have any other plans for the rest of the summer?” he asked casually as he looked around the backyard. Shit! Was this his way of flirting with me but trying to keep it casual because my sisters and his friends were against us getting together?

“Well, I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my summer. I’m going to be a college senior in the fall, and I’m trying to decide what comes next,” I said, smiling unabashedly at him.

“Done with my phone?” Polly asked as she stopped next to me.

“Yes, thanks.” I beamed at her and handed it back to me.

“I was just asking Chelsea if you guys have any fun plans for the summer.” He paused. “Maybe we can go on a camping trip, you and Max, Harriet and Finn, Chelsea, Lily, ooh, and I guess Natasha,” he said, grinning. “I feel like that would be fun.”

“That would be amazing,” I said quickly. “I love camping.”

“Since when?” Polly asked in a surprised tone. “The one and only time we went camping, you said that if you wanted to be in nature—”

“Really, Polly.” I cut her off fast. She really was a cockblock. “I love being in nature and staring at the stars.” I smiled as I gazed at Travis. “And doing all those things that make it a special experience.”

“What things?” Polly asked, and I just ignored her.
