I don’t know how I should feel about this. The entire time I thought it was either my mother or father who bought me them, because they were the only ones I told about wanting those boots.
“Thanks.” I rub his leg, and he places his hand over mine, so I remove my hand quickly. “You really spent over two grand on me? That’s insane.”
My father told me men who take the time to find out what a woman wants like you.
“You must have wanted me back then,” I blurt out.
He lifts my chin, and his touch sends butterflies flopping in my stomach. “I did, and I still do.”
I clear my throat, and lean back, trying to relax. “I love those, I still have them in my closet and wear them every winter.”
“I know.”
To lighten the mood, I grab the remote off the coffee table and tap the home page button so that the different apps pop up.
“Is there a show you would like to watch?” I ask.
“I don’t watch TV.”
“Not ever?”
He shakes his head. “I run multiple businesses, I don’t have time to watch TV.”
“What do you do in your spare time?”
“Read, sleep, and go to bars. Watching TV kills brain cells.”
“It doesn’t.” I choose the Netflix app and resume watchingTheHaunting of Bly Manor.“I read too, but not much. I like smutty romance.”
He rolls his eyes. “Typical. What woman doesn’t read romance?”
“If you trash talk my smut books, you can leave.” I set the remote back onto the table.
He cocks an eyebrow. “What exactly is smut?”
My cheeks flush. “Books with a lot of sex in it.”
“LikeFifty Shades of Grey?”
“You’ve seen it?”
“Yeah, I took a woman I was casually dating to the movies to see it. Those movies were a bore.”
“The books are way better.”
“The books are always better,” he shoots back.
“I have a very smutty book for you to read.” I stand up from the couch and grabDesperate Measuresby Katee Roberts from my industrial bookshelf tucked away in the corner next to the window. I go back to the couch and hand it to him. “Read this.”
He eyes the book cover and flips through it. “What’s it about?”
“It’s a retelling ofAladdin, except it’s a love story between Jafar and Jasmine.”
“Interesting.”
“The sex scenes are insane.”
“I’ll only read it if you agree to speak about the terms and conditions of us fucking casually.”
