“Well… uh… you’re blunt.”

“I don’t sugarcoat shit. Like I told you before, I don’t want anything serious. I want something casual with you. I’m not going to treat you like a quick fuck, so I’ll spend time with you whenever you want.” He pauses for a moment. “I always wanted to fuck you ever since you came over for my twenty-eighth birthday wearing that yellow bikini.” He brings my palm to his feather-soft lips, and he plants a soft kiss on my flesh. My nipples pebble and my heart gallops in my chest.

“You know how hard it was for me not to take you in my room and bend you over that day?”

I bite my lip to keep from moaning. “Why didn’t you try anything then?”

“You had a boyfriend at the time.”

He’s speaking about Carter. I hate the bastard. The one who left me when I was laid up in the hospital. The minute the doctor unwrapped the dressing on my face, Carter didn’t waste any time dumping me, as if I didn’t matter.

I point to my face. “What about my scar?”

“What about it?”

I gaze down at the wooden floors then back at him. “It makes me look hideous.”

“I don’t fuck hideous women. You’re gorgeous. Always have been and always will be.”

His words melt my heart, and I don’t know what to say. No one has ever called me beautiful after the car accident.

I chew on my bottom lip for a few moments, then I say, “You want to be friends with benefits. Have you done this before?”

“No. I don’t spend my time with the women I fuck. If I stick around too long, they get attached.”

I dip my chin. “How do you know I’m not the type to get attached?”

His eyes roam over my face but he doesn’t respond.

I bat my eyelashes. “I could fall in love with the great Atlas Conrad.”

“You’re too career-driven. Women who care about their future so much aren’t going to fuck it up on a relationship. In my opinion, those are the best ones to fuck.”

I shake my head. “I only had two boyfriends, and they were both serious. I never did anything casual.”

He frowns. “That sucks.”

“How so?”

“Because you’ve never experienced sex without commitment. Sex should be freeing and liberating, not with a lot of stipulations.”

“What about our job? I don’t want a rep that I’m trying to sleep my way to the top.”

“Who gives a fuck what people think?” He shakes his head. “People won’t know anything about us, I’m a very private man.”

“Can you give me time to think about it?”

“Sure. Take all the time you need.” He grabs the book, tucks it under his arm, and stands up from the couch. I walk him to the door.

“Make sure you highlight your favorite scenes and tell me about them.”

“Will do.” He steps closer to me. Leaning down, he wraps one of his arms around my waist, pulling me close.

He presses his lips against mine, and I moan. As soon as I try to pull away, he locks his hand at the back of my head, deepening our kiss. His tongue slides into my mouth, and I feel high, energy zapping through me. My mouth goes dry as my heart lurches in my chest as my achy breasts are pressed against his chest. He’s a better kisser than any guy I have ever kissed. Who would have known Atlas knows how to kiss so well?

He pulls away, smiling. “I know, I’m a great kisser, so imagine when I kiss your pussy lips.” He smiles and opens the door, then leaves me speechless, melting like a puddle of water.

The next day, I meet with Poppy at a winery to go wine tasting. After Atlas showed up to my house last night and told me he wanted to be friends with benefits, I needed advice. I stayed up all night thinking about the way he kissed me. I’ve never been kissed like that. He kisses me like I mean more to him than he leads on. The bartender places our drinks on the wooden table in front of us.
