A grin tugged at his lips, thinking about the fun they’d have. She could refuse, but he didn’t think she would. Because he wasn’t going to be able to see her play with anyone else. While they had a history together, and a long road ahead to repair that history, he would do this right. He would show Dani he was her perfect match in the club.

“Now that Gabriel’s here, we can discuss everything. Max, are there any issues?”

“None so far. The two new guys are working out just fine. We’ll move the equipment away from the wall you’ll be removing, so you can pull it down next week. You’re progressing quite fast.”

“Thank the weather for that. It’s warm enough that it’s moving fast. Dani?” Zeke looked at her.

Gabriel turned his attention to her. She looked sexy in her overalls. She’d put her hair into a ponytail, one he thought about tugging to see what would happen. “I’ve got the plants and trees on order. They’ll be here in the next two weeks. My team can start putting them in.” She barely glanced at him. Gabriel decided not to push it. For now, anyway.

“Good. Gabriel, there really isn’t much for you to do here since the plans are already filed and approved,” Zeke said.

“They are. The parking lot isn’t though.” He rubbed his chin. “I had pushback from the city on the expansion toward the forest.” He’d seen the email this morning.

“Why? This is private land,” Max said.

“I know, but they’re worried about green space.” He could only tell them what the email told him.

“Allyson didn’t think there would be an issue,” Zeke said.

“The email wasn’t from her.”

“That doesn’t make sense,” Dani spoke up. “We’re replacing every tree and keeping the changes from impacting the wildlife. Do you remember who sent the email?” Dani began typing on her tablet.

“Not off the top of my head.” Gabriel watched her staring down at the electronic tablet in her hand.

“Found it.” She typed more. “Don’t know this person. Let me reply with my drawings. Maybe then they’ll understand.”

“Thanks, Dani,” Zeke said. “I don’t want to get Allyson involved unless we have no choice.”

“Dani, how many are you going to have for your job?” Max asked.

“There will be me and two of my crew. I’ll forward their background checks to you. I did them when they were hired. And since we’ll be outside, there shouldn’t be an issue.”

Max nodded.

“Well, this was a quick meeting,” Zeke said.

“Good thing.” Max yawned. “I’m going to do some paperwork and go catch a nap. Dani, see you Friday night.” Max waved as he left.

“I’m going to go check the dimensions on the parking lot expansion once again,” Dani said and walked away. Gabriel kept his gaze on her.

“You have it bad,” Zeke commented.

“What?” Gabriel shook his head, and Zeke laughed.

“Another one bites the dust.”

Gabriel didn’t ask Zeke what he meant. Instead, he made his way to the parking lot and straight over to Dani. “How are you?” he asked.

“Fine.” She was making notes on her tablet.

He didn’t like the one word answer. “Can we talk for a minute?”

Dani looked up and frowned. “I don’t want to fight.”

“I don’t either.”

She lowered her tablet and waited.
