“I can reply to the email and advise that we’re revising the plans and”—she glanced at Gabriel—“have the new plans to them by tomorrow afternoon?”

He nodded. “Shouldn’t be a problem. I have all the electrical and plumbing on the other plans, so using those to amend the plans should be fine.”

“Great. I’ll leave it both to it.” Max rolled up the plans, and they made their way out of the club and back to the parking lot.

“So, Friday. Do you want to come to the club together?” Gabriel asked.

“I’d rather drive myself.” Dani unlocked her vehicle.

“Very well.” He opened the driver’s door for her.

“Thank you.” Dani hopped into the driver’s seat and put her bag on the passenger seat before turning back to him.

“I’ll see you later.” He leaned in and brushed a kiss over her cheek before stepping back and shutting the door. Dani drove off, and Gabriel took a deep breath. He needed to work on the plans for the parking lot after his meeting and forward them to Dani. Or better yet, show up with them. Exposure therapy, right? The more time she spent with him, the more she’d want to be with him. At least, that’s what Gabriel was counting on.

* * * *

Dani was surprised by the kiss on her cheek. After she drove off, she placed her hand over the spot. Her skin tingled. Gabriel was pushing, asking her if she wanted to ride with him to the club on Friday. He’d surprised her by not arguing when she said she’d drive herself.

He’d asked her to play with him, but she hadn’t answered. Dani didn’t want any more surprises. A sub and Dom had to be upfront about terms, about hard and soft limits, and mostly about honoring safe words. They needed to discuss that before she made any decisions about playing with him.

Once back in her office, Dani went over the plans for the club once again, and forwarded her notes on to Gabriel. At one-thirty, Allyson walked into her office.

“Ready for lunch?”

“Yep.” Dani grabbed her purse. “Your car or mine.”

“I’ll let you drive.”

Dani laughed. It was rare when Allyson drove, but Dani asked anyway. She drove to Sweet & Savory. It was the best place to eat; besides, Lara owned it.

“So tell me,” Allyson said after they placed their order. “What’s the full story between you and Gabriel?

Dani blew out a breath and looked at her best friend. “I told you on Saturday.”

“You glossed over it. I want details.”

“I didn’t gloss over anything.” Lucky for her it was after the lunch rush, so a good portion of the tables were empty.

“Gabriel seemed genuinely shocked when he saw you at the club, and you’ve told me so little about that time. So what’s going on?”

Dani fiddled with the edge of her blouse. “I told you; Gabriel tried to introduce me to kink and…I freaked out.”

“What?” Allyson just stared at her as if she had grown horns out of the top of her head. “You went with me to a couple of the parties in Seattle.”

Dani didn’t blame her. She’d gone to those parties and convinced Allyson to give them up. She was also the one who’d encouraged Allyson to get involved with Zeke.

“What did I know?” Dani said. “Even though I went to college locally, I wasn’t even aware of Wicked Sanctuary or kink for that matter. Now that I think about it, Wicked Sanctuary wasn’t even open yet.” Dani did some quick calculations in her head. She’d been gone for three years, almost four, and Wicked Sanctuary opened five years ago. “Well, maybe they had just opened.”

“Yes, hard to tell, but I don’t remember you being a prude in college.”

“I wasn’t. Being a prude has nothing to do with it. I like sex, but when Gabriel started talking about spanking me, I kind of lost it.” She really couldn’t blame Gabriel for everything, but he had scared her. All she knew at the time was from what she’d read on the Internet, but now she knew it wasn’t all whips and pain.

“Gabriel moved way too fast and didn’t take time to explain it to you, did he?” Allyson shook her head. “Zeke took his time teaching me the right kind of kink, and it really helped.”

Dani smiled. “I saw the changes in you. Zeke’s been the best Dom. He did it right. The world has changed a lot in the last few years, and people are more accepting of an alternative lifestyle than they were.” San Francisco had been a great place to realize that.

“Not all people.” Allyson waved her hand in the air. “My parents, brothers, and my ex don’t accept anything that they don’t believe in.”
