He scoffs playfully. “My mother taught me. I’m not just some brat who took over his mother’s company. I love the idea of design and the history of it all. I helped my mother sew many designs. She taught me how to sketch and how versatile the body can be when it comes to design.”

“Can you make something, so I can see your skills for myself?” I blurt out.

Ru walks over to me and examines my body. “I would love to.”

Chapter 5

Taurus

The investigators finally called Ru back and told me to meet them. Ru offered to come, but I knew he had an important meeting that morning and told him that I would go alone.

Frigid air pushes through the vents in the room I’m sitting in. “Ms. Maxwell, we believe this could be arson. Do you have any idea who could have done this? Do you have any enemies that could potentially want to harm you?”

“The only person I could think of is my mother. When my father died, he left me that house with the money I am to receive if anything should happen to that house. My mother was not happy to be left with nothing.”

“So why burn the house now?” The investigators ask.

I sigh, “My father, did care for my mother at one point, so if anything were to happen to me, she would get the money he left me. She thought she could kill two birds with one stone.”

“That’s a hard accusation.”

I shrug, “I can’t think of anyone else.”

“What was your relationship with her growing up?”

“Great, until my father died. Then again, I’m not sure if she was always bad and I just didn’t see it because my father was so amazing. She never cared to know where I was. She would leave me home all the time for days on end. Verbally and physically abused me every time we interacted. Oh, and slept with my fiancé. So yes, murder for money is not too far out of reach.”

The investigators nod, “Thank you, Ms. Maxwell. We will stay in touch.”

As I exit the building to look for a taxi, Ru is there waiting for me. I can’t help but grin when he opens the passenger door for me. “I apologize I couldn’t be here sooner. The meeting ran a bit long.” Ru explains.

“It’s fine. Thank you for coming to get me. I appreciate it.” It’s been a few days since I told Ru I dreamt of him and for the most part, it’s been…normal. Nothing has been too awkward.

He starts the car and drives, “What did they say?”

I yawn and stretch, “It was arson. They don’t know who set my house on fire, but if I had to guess, my mother.”

“You think it’s her?”

My head turns to look out the window. “No one else hates me that much. From the slight reflection in the window. Ru is looking at me with worry. His hand moves to mine, and I accept the invitation of his firm hand.

“I have some design ideas for what I should make you, but I’ll need to take your measurements. No rush on the measurements.” His thumb rubbed the top of my hand before letting go.

“We could do it once we get home,” I suggest. He nods in agreement. “How was the meeting?”

He groans, “Boring and long. I love the idea of the fashion industry, but the business side is taxing. They are a bunch of idiots that do not know anything about the culture of design, but their money helps get ideas through the door. They are a necessary annoyance. Not sure how my mother did it for such an exceedingly long time.”

“Because she is a fucking boss. That’s how.” I state.

“You truly like my mom, huh?” Ru laughs.

I look over at him and smile gleefully.

Ru

Taurus stands in the sewing room. “Now that I think about it. I can call Lily to come to take your measurements.” I suggest.

She shakes her head. “No, that’s too much trouble. I don’t mind you taking my measurements.”
