The people he loved.

There wasn’t a selfish bone in this man’s body.

And every time I learned something new about him, I fell a little further.

He smirked, his head bobbing. “Yeah, I’ll go for an hour or so, mostly because Greg Barlowe will be there, and I really want to secure the contract his nephew fucked up when he talked shit about the club and my name.”

“Did you want me to come with?”

He was already shaking his head. “You need to rest. I’ll go for a couple of hours, the boys will be here, and they’re plenty of entertainment.”

I nodded, but it felt strange.

I wanted to be there to support him, be on his arm.

Was that weird as hell?

A week, that’s how long it had been, the most whirlwind week of my life. One I wasn’t sure I’d have made it to the end of if it hadn’t been for Drake. I really wasn’t sure how to show him how much I appreciated him, feeling like ‘thank you’ just really wasn’t enough.

But I suddenly had an idea.

“Should I be scared about the smile on your face right now?” he teased, pulling my focus back to him.

I shook my head. “Scared, no.”

Excited, yes.

DRAKE

“Hennessey.”

The barman nodded and disappeared while I turned to scan the crowd.

The first floor of Silver Ridge was bustling, transformed from a simple lobby and conference area to a stunning event center—thanks to Zoey’s planning and a lot of fucking hard work. This place held a lot of ups and downs for me.

It was the project that brought this amazing woman into my father’s life after he’d spent so many years punishing himself and not allowing himself to find the love he deserved. But it was also the place we almost lost her, and where I could have possibly had to once again watch the man I most admired in this life fall to pieces.

Thankfully, the latter never came to pass.

“Here’s your drink, Mr. Shaw.”

I nodded to the bartender and picked up my short glass, heading for a quieter corner of the room where Reed was currently trying to pick up Reece, my stunning but also take-no-shit real estate agent. “She’d chew you up and spit you out,” I announced, sliding up next to him while Reece tried to hide her amusement behind her champagne glass.

“That’s what’s so fucking sexy—”

I elbowed him in the side, forcing him to choke on his words. “Quick, Reece, make your exit while you still can.”

She nodded to Reed. “It was nice to meet you,” she said politely, though her gentle laughter floated away with her.

“Man, what the hell?” Reed asked with a frown.

“You’re not her type,” I answered, leaning back against the wall beside him, happy to hide in the shadows for a little bit.

He raised his brow. “And how do you know that?”

“Because you have a dick, asswipe.”

It took at least three seconds for him to process what I was saying. “Ohhh.”
