“Because I think family is overrated. That’s why I killed my parents.”

That makes me pause. “You killed your parents?”

“I said it, didn’t I?”

“H-how?”

“Oh, you know, with a hammer and an axe and—”

“I mean, how could you do such a thing? How could you kill your parents?”

He leans in close until our foreheads are touching. “Because I’m fucking crazy,” he murmurs.

Then he kisses me.

At first, I tense, but as he kisses me deeper, I relax into it. Not going to lie, it feels amazing. Viktor’s lips are the perfect amount of soft and rough. I let my eyes slip shut and sink into the moment.

… until I remember that it’s Viktor fucking Levin who’s kissing me.

I pull back and shove him off me. Viktor chuckles as he sits back on his heels, his gaze darker than usual. “You’re a good kiss—”

I slap him, cutting him off. “I never said you could kiss me.”

He rubs his cheek, looking completely unfazed. “You liked it. Admit it.”

He’s right. I did like it. I’m sure as shit not going to tell him that, though.

Viktor leans back in. “Want to go for round two?”

A loud bang fills the air, and I jerk back, looking around wildly.

“Viktor!” a man shouts. His voice is followed by the heavy thud of footsteps. “Come out. We’re here for the girl.”

My heart lurches. Somone has come for me.

Viktor stands up like he’s not surprised this is happening. He reaches into a cabinet and pulls out a shotgun. A viscous smile crosses his face.

“Finally.”

CHAPTER6

Gemma

Viktor turns to me. “You might want to hide for this.” I frown, unmoving, as a man I don’t know rounds the corner, a gun in his hands. Viktor fires his shotgun, blasting the guy across the room. The man’s blood and guts leave a stain on the white wall.

I gasp and duck underneath the table, pulling a chair in front of me. More footsteps come closer as multiple male voices shout for their fallen comrade. Who are these men? The guy who just died said he was here for me. Did Marco send them? I’m sure it wasn’t Franco.

Viktor stays tucked against the corner wall, his shotgun ready and loaded to fire again. If these men are here for me, I need to find a way to get to them.

“Drop your gun,” one of the men shouts at Viktor. I can’t see any of them since they’re keeping their distance. I would, too. Viktor is unpredictable and unhinged.

“I’m not going to do that. If you want Gemma, you’ll have to go through me first.”

Gunfire goes off, loud in the house, and my ears feel like they’re bleeding. “Get out of the way,” the man says.

“Nope. You’ll have to come closer.”

All is quiet. There are no other entrances into the kitchen, so no way for the men to get to me. They’ll have to face off against Viktor and his shotgun.
