“No! I want to leave right now,” I snapped, hobbling away, with my flip-flops half on.

“What’s wrong?”

I whirled around unsteadily.

“I’ll tell you what’s wrong, you sleazy bastard! You kissed me!”

“Umm, I know. I was right there when we kissed, andwhen you tried to drown me,” he said, with a smirk.

“And where was your girlfriend?” I snarled.

DV sighed and ran a hand through his hair. The action made the muscles in his arm bulge and my stomach went hollow at the sight.Don’t get distracted, I told myself sternly. He’s a cheating rat, and you helped him cheat.

“Vinnie is not my girlfriend,” he said softly.

“That’s not whatshesaid. She said she was your girlfriend, and you didn’t correct her,” I pointed out.

“I know! It’s just that… I wanted to show you that I had moved on.”

“But… why?”

“Because you broke off our engagement and walked out on me,” he roared. “I’m only human, Tasha.”

Umm, okay. I could see why he wanted to save face in front of me.

“So, you just brought a fake girlfriend along?”

“No! I didn’t mean to bring her along at all. She just insisted on tagging along.”

“So… she’s not fake?”

I wanted to clobber the lying rat with my flip-flops, but I focused on breathing in and out slowly so he wouldn’t know how close to tears I was.

“For fuck’s sake, I’m making an absolute mess of this. Tasha, Vinnie is not my girlfriend because we were only on our second date. And there will never be a third.”

“Does she know that?” I asked snarkily.

“She does. I spoke to her earlier when I picked up the emergency overnight bag from Samar’s van.”

I needed time to think that through because even if it was only their second date, it still rankled that he was dating at all. And it rankled even more because I knew I was being irrational. He had every right to date whomever he wanted. And I had no right to be upset about it. But I was. So there.

“I’m going home,” I said, heading to the door again, trying not to trip over my feet because all the water dripping from us had turned the floor into a slip-and-slide.

“Fine, I’ll walk you to your door,” he said, and I froze because he was right behind me, his hand on the small of my back.

I took a step forward and he followed, and his handwas still on my back!

“Umm, what are you doing?” I asked, turning my head to shoot a wary glance at him.

“Walking you to your door,” he replied, with that damn twinkle in his eyes.

“But why are you still touching me?”

“I can’t help it,” he said with a shrug. “I like touching you.”

Dammit! I liked it too!

“I can stop if you don’t want me to touch you anymore,” he added.
