“Mr. Lorenzo Mancinelli is here. He said you’re expecting him.”

“I am.”

I stand and wait for Lorenzo to enter. Ashley definitely thinks he’s hot, but he barely acknowledges her. He walks straight to my desk, but he waits until he hears the door close before he picks up my phone.

“Unlock it, please.”

I press my finger to the screen, and he taps my screen. I try to see, but he’s in parts of it I’ve never seen. It has something to do with the operating system and memory I think.

“Is Gabe coming?”

“Yes. He said he was on his way. It sounded like he was still meeting with your uncle.”

“He was.”

I wait to see if there’s more, but he’s not forthcoming. He has me unlock my computer, then he checks some shit that I don’t understand either. He pulls a laptop out of the bag he was carrying and connects it to my work one. Then he’s typing things into both of them. I see a blue bar on a small window on my screen while information’s populating on his. I’m standing off to the side, looking over his shoulder while he sits at my desk chair.

“Ms. O’Malley, you can sit. This is going to take a little while.”

He gestures toward a chair on the other side of my desk. I’d rather be in my chair and feel in control of what’s happening, but I’m not. Not in my chair, and not in control. He’s doing other stuff, but I can’t see now. He’s clicking and typing. What’s happening?

My door opens, and Ashley steps halfway in.

“Sinead—”

“Thank you.”

Gabriele steps around her as he speaks. He doesn’t slam the door on her, but he makes it clear she needs to step back.

“It’s all right, Ash.”

I walk forward and smile at her.

“Something’s come up with a family member, and they’re helping me.”

“Your dad?”

“No. Nothing like that.”

I glance up at Gabriele as he grimaces. I realize that was a stupid lie. As my client, he shouldn’t be helping me with anything personal. I don’t know why that came to mind. But it gets Ashley to back away. Gabriele closes the door softly, then I’m in his arms.

“Shh,piccolina. I’m here. What happened?”

He’s speaking softly, but Lorenzo answers before I can.

“She’s got spyware on her phone. It’s been hacked. They’ve gotten into everything that has a saved password. Fortunately, there’s very little work-related stuff, and you’ve kept your texts discreet.”

Fuck. He read those? Thank God we haven’t had phone sex. I rub my right fingers over my eye as I lean against Gabriele. I’m so glad he’s so tall. I can put my head on his chest and not have the top of it jamming his chin.

“Sinead said something about an email.”

“Yeah. Come and look.”

Gabriele keeps his arm wrapped around me as we approach the desk. Lorenzo turns the computers toward us. Gabriele reads the email on my laptop, then reads something on Lorenzo’s. He looks at me before meeting Lorenzo’s gaze. Something is going on that I don’t understand. I want to, but I don’t think I should ask.

“Lorenzo is going to take you to his parents’ house. His brothers are going to come over too. Uncle Massi will join you guys in a bit. Auntie Nicoletta will probably feed you until you pop. If I don’t get back until late, she’ll make sure you have a guest room you can go to when you get tired.”

I glance at Lorenzo before I look up at Gabriele.
