“You made him break up with me.”

Caden laughs, throwing his head back. “What the fuck.”

“Jade,” Ethan says low, separating from his friend. “It wasn’—”

“Bastard!” I scream, hitting Caden with a hook.

It just…left my body. My eyes widen when his face slams to the side.

There’s a party raging behind me, so I don’t think anyone really notices what’s going on in our little corner.

Caden massages his jaw as he stands to his full height, looking down at me.

I don’t feel fear, only anger. Which, really, has always been what gets me in trouble.

“You fucking…”

I can’t control myself when I jump him. We both stumble to the side as he tries to avoid me, and through the kitchen door. No one’s in here since Elliot said it was a no-go. It leads to the garage, and he doesn’t want anyone finding the van.

Caden is too strong for me to take him to the floor, but he’s forced to take multiple steps back to keep his balance.

He pushes me back, clearly not intending to hurt me, and I land in Ethan’s arms. He wraps them around my waist, my arms stuck to my body. “Stop it,” he hisses in my ear. “It wasn’t him.”

“How could it not?” I rage, thrashing in his grip. “He was all too happy to fuck you the second he could.”

“And it was amazing, too,” Caden taunts me, leaning back against the kitchen table. He crosses his arms and tilts his head to the side. “He’s just so irresistible when he moans, isn’t he—”

“Shut up!”

“Jade, that’s enough.” Ethan’s grip tightens to the point I’m struggling to take a full breath. “If you don’t calm down, Caden will happily witness me putting you on your knees and shutting you up with my cock.”

“Charming as ever,” I grunt.

But it has the desired effect. I calm down in his hold until he feels it’s safe to release me. Still, he keeps a hand wrapped at the back of my neck.

“And you,” Ethan insists. “Will you leave her the fuck alone? I told you not to get her angry.”

“Name one thing that doesn’t anger her,” Caden mocks.

“I will—” My threat dies in my throat when Ethan drags me back to him, my shoulders hitting his muscly chest.

“So possessive of me, Mi Cielo,” Ethan whispers in my ear. “If that’s how you feel after seeing Caden touch meonce, imagine how I feel seeing Elliot fuck with you every day.”

I twist in his hold, refusing to listen.

“I wasn’t going to fuck your man, Jade,” Caden jumps back in. “I found the love of my life. When that happens, you can’t feel anything for anyone else, believe me. Why don’t you ask Ethan what it feels like?”

Ethan freezes behind me.

“What?” Caden laughs. “You never told her that apart from me you haven’t dated or fucked anyone since you two broke up?”

Ethan huffs, his warm breath tickling my neck. “I can honestly say you were the biggest fucking mistake I ever made, Cade.”

Caden’s smile is as smug as they come. “I don’t think you mean that.” He pushes off the table and murmurs, “You’re welcome,” to Ethan as he leaves the kitchen.

The music becomes loud again as he opens the door, and it goes back to a dull bass as soon as it closes.

Silence stretches for a long minute. Our breaths synchronize, our hearts beating at the same pace. I can feel his between my shoulder blades, dictating the rhythm of mine.
