"None of this is your fault," she explains calmly.

“They’re not going to believe me,” I panic. “No one will.”

She pauses, her eyes rounding. “Of course they will. Why wouldn’t they? I believe you. Xi might not be happy about you being here, but he didn’t doubt what happened for one second.”

“I have to leave before the brothers get here.”

She grabs my wrist, softly bringing me back. “You shouldn’t be on your own right now. Ethan and Elliot will take care of you.”

“They won’t believe me! Are you not fucking listening?”

I pull out of her hold, turning toward the door, only to come face to face with Xi, arms crossed in the doorway.

“Watch your tone when you talk to her.”

I blink up at him, not sure what to do now that he’s blocking the way. A loud banging on the door brings all of our attention away from this conversation.

“Sounds like your boyfriends are ready to destroy my front door.”

He finally moves out of the way, and I follow. There’s no escaping them. No escaping the things they’ll say.

Is it true?

Are you lying?

Don’t lie, Jade.

“My love.” Elliot is the first in, grabbing me by the waist and picking me up as if I’m a kid who had gotten lost in a mall and he just found me. I mechanically wrap my legs around his waist. “Fuck, I was so worried.”

I feel a hand caressing my back. “He’s a dead man walking, Mi Cielo. I can promise you his days on earth are counted.”

“Fuck the days, he’s got mere hours left. What was his name?”

He keeps my head to his shoulder, and I nuzzle against his neck. His warmth is making me feel alive again.

“Tell us everything,” Ethan says as he pulls my hair away from my face. “Every fucking thing, and we’ll make him pay.”

A sob constricts my throat, my words painful to push out. “You…I…I’m confused,” I admit.

“What’s confusing, my love? Tell us.”

Ethan’s hand is on my cheek, his thumb wiping a falling tear. “You don’t have to get into details now. Or ever. We’ll be ready when you are. Don’t make yourself worse.”

“We don’t need to know everything to end his fucking life, trust me,” Elliot adds.

My arms tighten around his neck.

“Just know we’re here,” Ethan concludes. “We’re here now, and I’m sorry we weren’t last night. That we didn’t stop him.”

I gulp on air, trying to breathe through the ball in my throat. A whimper escapes me.

“It’s not a lie,” I choke. “He really did attack me.”

“Of course it’s not a lie,” Elliot reassures me in a gentle voice. “We know that.”

“Baby, we know you’re not lying,” Ethan insists.

That’s the exact moment my whole world implodes.
