Shit.

We robbed a bank.

And we got away with it.

A huge smile spreads on my lips.

This is it. I’m going to tell those two men what they mean to me, how much I love them. That they might be completely insane, but I want them. Ineedthem. And I don’t even care if it’s because they steered me in that direction.

I don’t care that Elliot is a controlling manipulator.

I don’t care that Ethan is a crazy murderer.

What I care about is how I feel.

And I choose to love them. Because that’s the strongest, realest feeling I’ve had in a long time. That’s all I want to hold on to.

I finish my glass and hold it to my chest, biting my lower lip. It’s time.

Time for our life together to begin.

I take a step back, smiling to myself, but stop when I feel something crunch under my boot. Looking down, I frown when I see glass on the floor.

I look around the kitchen in a panic.

Glass on the floor. I know what that fucking means.

I go to the window hidden by the fridge and freeze. It’s broken.

“Guys,” I call, my eyes on the window. “Guys! I think someone broke—”

I jolt when a hand slams over my mouth. “Shh, shh, shh. No screaming.”

I recognize this voice.

I claw at the hand, but there’s nothing to do. I can breathe just fine, I just can’t talk or go anywhere.

“Your boyfriends and Kay are in the living room with three guns pointed at them. You’re going to follow me there and sit down with them like a good girl. All quietly.”

She releases me, and I snap around.

Narrowing my gaze at Kay’s lifelong enemy, the head of NSC, my jaw hurts when I grit her name. “Emma.”

She jerks her head toward the kitchen door. “Off you go.”

I walk to the living room slowly, her gun pressing against the back of my head. I don’t want to come face to face with the fact that we were so close to happiness, and she’s pulling it out from under our feet.

And yet it hits when I find Kay sitting on the sofa between Elliot and Ethan, three people standing in front of them, three guns pointed at their heads.

Kay is fuming, a rage like I’ve never seen boiling her blood.

“So you’re that desperate now, Emma, huh? Sofuckingdesperate you have come to steal from our homes.”

“It’s called working smarter not harder, Kayla. You should have a look at it.”

Ethan and Elliot are staring at me, completely quiet, their faces blank. They would never let anyone know they’re scared to die.

But I see the way Elliot taps against his thigh. Ethan’s eyes are screaming murder. I bet he can practically taste blood on his tongue right now.
