Logan is the one pointing his gun at Elliot, his hand trembling from the need to shoot the man he hates in the face. I have to shake my head when I realize who’s holding his gun at Ethan.

“Racer?” I rasp.

He doesn’t look at me, jaw tight. “I’m sorry, Jade.”

“You’re sorry?” I choke. “Youhelped mebuild that van! I should have fucking known not to trust anyone from NSC.”

He shakes his head. “Please, Jade. This is just how it works in this town, and you know it. Don’t make this worse.”

Emma pushes me forward with her gun. “You’re the one naïve enough to trust someone from the opposite crew.” For lack of space on the sofa, she kicks the backs of my knees, forcing me to kneel on the floor. The closest person to me is Ethan.

I eye the woman pointing a gun at Kay. I know her from somewhere, I’m just not sure where.

“Tamar,” Emma calls out. “Tie their hands behind their back. I got Kay, don’t worry.”

Tamar? Yeah, I’ve definitely heard that name in NSC, but I didn’t think she ever did these kinds of jobs. She’s meant to be a computer girl. Mainly runs scams online and clears any stolen devices.

I feel like this will never be over as she ties our hands behind our backs using zip ties. It takes her forever, and I’m dying inside seeing Elliot and Ethan in such vulnerable positions. I want to hold them against me, to whisper that everything will be okay, and from the looks Ethan gives me, I know he feels the same.

Elliot is gazing at Logan. If looks could kill. I know what’s at the back of his mind, though. He’s planning how to get us out of this situation.

You can’t keep a man like Elliot tied up in his own house. You can’t rob him. He always finds a way. Especially if my life is at risk.

Emma and Racer are the ones who take our bags full of money. Outside, I hear them break the windows of our cars. Probably to take the rest of the bags. I bet they’re bringing them to Emma’s priceless Range Rover.

It takes them a while, and we’re all just forced to wait here, helpless. Her car isn’t parked in front of the house, or we’d have seen it. They take one last look around the living room.

“Take whatever the fuck you want from here,” Emma says. “We have all the time in the world.”

My head falls forward. Ethan’s is too, as if he can’t take it anymore. I can’t believe this is happening to us. But when my eyes dart toward Ethan, they widen. He’s discretely pulling a pocketknife out of his back pocket with his tied hands.

I look away again, too scared to give him away, but not before I catch him winking at me. It’s reckless, clearly to reassure me. With his black hair falling in front of his face, I don’t think anyone saw that.

“If I were you, Emma,” Kay says in a smug voice. “I’d kill me.”

I look up at her. “Kay, stop.”

Emma chuckles, pressing her gun to Kay’s temple. “Why would I do that? I want you alive when your empire crumbles to the ground like the fucking house of cards it is. You’re nothing without the Wolves, Kay. And without that money? You’reless than nothing.”

“There’s fifty grand in my bedroom,” Elliot says, his gaze not leaving Logan’s. “Third door down the hall. It’s under my bed.”

Holy shit. I remember seeing a duffle bag when I looked for cigarettes in his room. I can’t believe that was the money I was accused of stealing.

“Elliot,” Ethan growls. “What the fuck are you doing?” But I recognize that tone from him. He’s just playing along with his brother’s plan.

Emma bites her thumb’s acrylic nail, narrowing her gaze at Elliot.

“There is fifty fucking grand in that bag. Just take it,” Elliot insists.

“Elliot!” Ethan barks at him. “Shut the fuck up!”

I’m confused. What are they doing?

“I just want them out. They’re going to search the whole house for money. Might as well give it to them.”

I don’t believe this for one second, and clearly neither does Kay, who stays silent.

But Emma does. And that’s most important.
