Elliot laughs like this is a joke. His breath tickles the back of my neck, and for a split second, I feel him inhale the smell of my hair.

But there’s nothing humorous on Kay’s face.

Ethan’s approach is more serious. “Kay, you’re the head of the Kings. You can’t do dangerous jobs like this.” He plays with his helix piercing, distracting me.

“We need money. And we need it fast. Now that NSC is backed by the Cosa Nostra and got their own police protection, we have little advantages on them.Moneyis something they don’t have.”

“Can’t the Wolves give us an advance?” Ethan insists. This is the most I’ve heard him talk since I’ve been back.

Elliot relaxes in his seat—like Kay hasn’t just announced the craziest shit ever—and he brings me closer to him, my back against his chest.

“No.” Kay’s eyes dart to me briefly. I wouldn’t have noticed it if I wasn’t staring at her. She has issues with the Wolves. I can tell.

Ethan narrows his gaze on Elliot, silently telling him to do something about the current situation.

Elliot shrugs. “We’ve planned the fuck out of it.”

“You guys are my perfect team for this. I need someone who can carry heavy bags.” She nods toward Ethan. “A sweet charmer,” her eyes go to Elliot. “And a great driver.” She finishes on me.

“What?” I snap. It seems it’s the only word that can come out of my mouth today. “That’s the riskiest job. The cops are more likely to show up once you have the money. I’ll be waiting like a sitting duck. This is death waiting to happen.”

“Yeah.” She nods, not even bothering to pretend she feels bad for me. “That’s unfortunate as fuck for you. Especially since you’re the only one who doesn’t have a choice.”

I’ve been a racer since I was seventeen. Before I was a traitor, I was the car specialist in the Kings’ crew. I got my 1993 Mazda RX-7 with my first payment from the Kings. One thousand and five hundred dollars of pure junk. I worked day and night to buy the crap car that it was back then. The only car I didn’t steal in my life. I raced with stolen cars while I tuned my baby, and at eighteen, I finally raced with my own. I won, of course. I never lose. And Kay knows that.

“We’re not talking about walking into the bank, shouting at people to get on the floor, and leaving all guns blazing kind of robbery,” Elliot explains. “More of a George Clooney planned the whole thing and no one will ever know it was us.”

“Did you just compare yourself to George Clooney?” I mumble, my lips numb from the insanity of their plan.

“What? We’re both handsome and we both planned to rob a bank.”

“Casinos, Elliot.” I roll my eyes.

“Oh,” he laughs to himself. “I didn’t actually see the movie–”

“Guns blazing will depend on if we get caught,” Kayla cuts back in. “But if it all goes well, no one should know.”

“Where did you get this stupid idea from?” Ethan snaps. My eyes roam over his abs. He’s still standing, shirtless, and when he talks, the Kings’ crown just below his pec trembles.

I force myself to look away and out of the window before he notices me drooling.

“I have from trusted sources that the Bank of Silver Falls is getting some major renovations done in May. And it just so happens that the CCTV will be cut off from seven-thirty to nine-thirty on the morning of May thirteenth.”

“Bank of Silver Falls has a good few million dollars in its vault,” Elliot backs her, his hand splaying on my stomach, keeping me close to him.

“That’s right. If we get in there, we’ll have access to a hundred million dollars.”

“We’ll never be able to carry all of that.” Ethan’s telling her like he knows she’s got something else in mind, which she proves right away.

“But we can carry ten million.”

“You’re going to need to explain to me how the hell we’re going to do that.”

“Sure will.” She uncrosses her arms and takes a five-dollar bill out of her pocket. “Did you guys know the Bureau of Engraving and Printing has set the specification that every dollar bill of any denomination has to weigh one gram.” She waves the bill in the air. “And the Bank of Silver Falls only has hundred-dollar bills in their vault.”

My eyes follow the five dollars in her hand. This girl has always been good at math and even better at scheming.

“They keep them in bricks.” She turns to me. “You know what a brick is. You’ve picked those up for me before. Tell the class.”
