I glare at her as I answer. “Ten grand in hundred-dollar bills.”

“You really are aware when it comes to money,” she mocks me openly. “To make it simple, a brick weighs a hundred grams.”

“What’s that in pounds?” Ethan asks.

“About 0.22 pounds for a brick. Anyone can easily carry a hundred bricks each, that’s 22 pounds. Or to put it in your guys’ language, anyone can carry a million dollars.”

“But you want ten million. So who’s carrying a thousand bricks? In how long? One can carry 22 pounds, but it’s a bit harder to move 220 pounds.”

“You,” she simply says. “Jade will be in the car, and Elliot has his own task to do. I’ll be watching the back door. You are going to use those muscles you work so hard on to do ten trips of a hundred bricks. You’re capable of that, aren’t you?”

She hit him right in his pride, and a man’s pride is a dangerous thing. It makes them do stupid shit like agree to rob a bank. Never again will Ethan accept to be called skinny or weak, and Kay knows exactly what she’s doing.

“I am,” he says cooly. “I can easily carry 44 pounds. I could do it in five trips and we’ll be out of there much quicker.”

“No,” she answers firmly. “Because this isn’t a gym contest, this is a bank robbery. So you will carry two bags each trip. Each bag will have fifty bricks, or five hundred fucking dollars. Put it how you want.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Because if everything goes to shit, and let’s say you have to drop a bag, I would rather you drop five hundred grands than a million.”

“Yeah, but if I move more money at the same time, then we’re getting out of the bank quicker. What if we get caught in the middle of it? Wouldn’t you rather already have more money out of the safe?”

“If we getcaught,we get nothing. Lighter bags are an advantage. If we have to abandon the van and all run with a bag, it’ll make things easier. Personally, I would rather run with a lighter bag of five hundred thousand dollars than be slowed down by a heavy bag, get caught, and lose everything. Including my freedom.”

Fuck. She really thought of everything.

“So you carry however many bags you want, in however many trips you want, but each bag will have fifty bricks. Clear?”

Ethan crosses his arms, slowly nodding.

There’s a long pause as we all process what she just said. And fuck, there’s a lot to process.

“If we end up with ten million split in four, that’s 2.5 million each. That’s way more than what I owe you,” I finally say. I try to sound like I mean business, but I know they all hear the weakness in my voice.

Kay takes advantage of it, pinning me with a stare. “Oh, how cute. You…you get nothing. Your debt will be waived, and I don’t care what you become after this, as long as you never set foot in my town again.”

“That’s not fucking fair,” I rage. “I didn’t even steal that money from you.”

“You did, and then you ran away. Now your punishment is to drive that van and shut the fuck up.”

“What van?” I insist. This drip-feeding of information is getting on my nerves, but the second Elliot feels me tense, he tightens his hold. Slipping his thumb under the shirt I’m wearing, he caresses my lower stomach.

I shift on his lap, but it doesn’t seem to bother him.

“The van you’re going to tune for us. I don’t want some slow van that’s going to get us caught. I want one fast enough to lose the cops should we need.”

“If we start driving like crazy, it’ll bring attention to us,” I retort. Why am I talking like I’ve agreed to this?

Probably because I don’t have a choice.

She leans over, lowering her face to mine. “It’s a worst-case scenario kind of van. We are robbing a bank after all.”

I throw my head back. “You’re fucking insane. It’ll look suspicious as fuck to have a nondescript van waiting in front of the bank.”

“You’ll be parked a three-minute drive away from the bank.” I feel my brow furrow, knowing she’s coming with more. “I’ll need you to make that drive in fifty-nine seconds.”

“What?” I hiss.
