Their constant bickering had no end.

“Says the former cokehead.”

That was a low blow. Worried that Noah would snap, he seemed calm when I tried to read his reaction. It was scary.

“Get out,” he demanded, never blinking.

“I think you should ask Aria what she wants.” Evan defensively folded his arms in his chest.

“Guys,” I weakly spoke. “Please stop arguing. I want you both to be here.”

Noah gave me his usual stare down that made my insides twist like Twizzlers. But I was determined to win and refused to look away until he yielded to my will.

“Fine.” He surrendered. “He stays.” Dragging a chair next to me, Noah sat down and ignored Evan.

The energy in the room was still horribly tense. There I was, lying between two men I loved; brothers bonded through pain and broken by unspoken grudges. I looked at each handsomeface and observed the way they glowered at one another. Caesar and Antony, oddly, came to mind.

“How are you feeling?” Noah asked.

“I’m all right.”

“That’s a pretty necklace.” He reached out, holding the crystal pendant. “Did your mom give that to you?”

“No.” I smiled. “Evan did.”

“How sweet of him.” He sounded more sarcastic than sincere. Clearly, Noah was struggling to play nice.

Evan took the chance to ask him about the pregnancy rumor.

“I heard you and the Missus are having a baby on the way. Congrats!”

“Who told you?”

“Natalie.”

The reality of him having a baby with this woman was heart wrenching to hear. I felt like Vanessa had stolen him from me for good. I was about to say something to Evan when his cellphone chimed.

Checking his phone, he told me he had to go because “something came up.”

“Another convenient booty call?” Noah said in a patronizing tone.

Evan dismissed the comment and kissed my cheek before saying he would visit me tomorrow.

After he left, Noah got up and shut the door.

“Good riddance.” He sighed, returning to his seat. “I know you’re upset.”

Really?I thought in annoyance, staring out the window.

“Aria, look at me.”

“No.”

“Please.”

“If I could get out of this stupid hospital bed, I would!”

“I know, but I’m glad I have the advantage at the moment. Look at me, please.”
