“I thought you and Vanessa had settled things. Why are you making such outrageous accusations? Is this your way of taking revenge to get back at her?”

It hurt that he thought I would stoop to such levels.

“I can’t believe you would think that about me.”

“We’ll discuss this later. My driver will take you home since the school day’s over.” He picked up his office phone and dialed.

“Hang up. I’m out.” I walked toward the door and noticed Dianne looking at us; she seemed worried.

She didn’t hear our argument, did she?

My heart didn’t want to leave, but my pride was screaming to run.

“Aria, wait.” Noah appeared behind me.

“Why? You don’t believe me.” I refused to face him.

“Look at me.”

“No. I’m leaving.”

He gently grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the door. My heart sped up from the contact. As angry as I was, Noah just had this ability to touch something deep within me; something that made me shiver.

“Don’t be so difficult, please,” he begged.

I met his pleading eyes and wanted to cry. It was devastating to know he didn’t trust me.

“Aria, is this about us?”

“There is nousanymore.” My eyes brimmed with tears.

“Look, I know you were hurting last night. I know you want us to—” Noah stopped, lowering his voice. “You know…” He caressed my face, but I withdrew.

“I can’t. I can’t stand here another second knowing you don’t believe me.” Stepping back, I convinced myself that his touch was toxic. “I can get my own cab home.”

“Don’t leave yet.”

“Goodbye, Noah.”

“Hey! I’m talking to you!”

His fuming voice caught everyone’s attention as they stopped what they were doing and looked at us. My embarrassment didn’t stop me from heading straight toward the elevators. I didn’t care about how loud and angry he got. He had no authority over me. Not anymore.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

No Strings Attached

Evan Hunter entered his loft around eight in the evening; but he wasn’t alone. A blue-eyed brunette was accompanying him. He had met her at a bar last weekend. Being the charismatic man he was, he successfully lured her back to his place after their dinner date. She seemed interested in a night of steamy, spontaneous sex.

“Wow, nice crib!” Lindsay said, scanning her surroundings, unaware that she had walked right into the wolf’s den.

Evan made his way to the mini-bar and asked her if she would like a drink.

“What do you have?”

“I make an impressive Amaretto Sour.”

“Sounds good to me.”
