“Wait!” He grabbed my wrist.

“But you have company, and I—”

“She was just about to go, actually.”

I’m not convinced.

“Stay, Aria.”

Meeting his eyes, I chewed the inside of my cheek.

“Please,” he insisted. “Please, stay.”

Reluctantly, I stepped inside.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Date Over

Evan was in a hurry to get his date out of his place. The last thing he wanted was for Aria to leave. Entering his bedroom, he found Lindsay lying naked in bed, waiting for him.

“You need to leave,” he said, picking her clothes from off the floor. “My niece is here, and I can’t kick her out.”

Lindsay sat up, irritated by the news. “You’re kickingmeout?”

“Pretty much.”

“Unbelievable,” she scoffed, getting out of bed. “Will you call me at least?”

“I’ve got your number saved, don’t I?”

“Yeah, but will you use it?”

“Of course.” His smile was convincing enough, but Evan knew he wouldn’t call her again. She lacked EQ and IQ from what he gathered throughout their date.

Sighing, Lindsay promptly dressed herself before she walked out of his bedroom. She stole a quick glance at Aria, intimidated by her beauty. “Youare his niece?”

Aria nodded.

“Aren’t you too old to be babysat?”

“I, um…”

“I’m kidding,” Lindsay said, putting on her shoes. “Family comes first.”

“Sorry to spoil the fun.”

The sassy brunette turned around and looked at Evan. “Don’t forget to call me!”

“Good night, Lindsay!” he hollered over the music.

Now he had Aria all to himself. At last.

??

Dark house musicechoed around Evan’s loft while he rolled a joint. The pungent scent of cannabis was in the air. Aria couldn’t help but notice.

“Is that marijuana I smell?”
