“Get your clothes on, Aria,” Noah demanded. “We’re leaving.”

Hesitant to move, I worried if I resigned my position as referee, they’d end up killing each other. All I had to do was step away and it would have led to a potential fatality. They were both experienced in boxing and mixed martial arts. If they wound up in a fist fight, I feared they would ruin their attractive faces and knock a few teeth out. I couldn’t imagine Noah with a black eye. He appeared so invincible in my eyes, like nothing and no one could break him. But I knew everyone has a story of pain and suffering. We all break down in life before we experience a breakthrough.

“You need to stop treating her like a dog on a leash,” Evan ranted, which only angered Noah as he cursed at him.

“Shut the hell up! You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I don’t? The more you try to control her life, the further you’ll push her away. I’m trying to help you out here.”

“I don’t need your help! I need you out of our lives!”

“Hey!” I pushed Noah back; he was getting short fused. “If I get dressed, will you promise not to hurt him?”

“He can’t hurt me,” Evan cut in. “He’s the one who’s gonna have broken bones and stitches. You should holdmeback.”

“I beg to differ,” Noah argued. “Get out of the way, Aria.”

My God, there was way too much testosterone in the room… more than I could handle.

“I’m gonna play the ‘teen card’ here and remind you both that you’d be setting a terrible example if you brawled out in front of me. Not to mention how I’d be traumatized by witnessing it.”

The tension in the air had not evaporated, as they both stayed silent, seemingly plotting ways of getting away with murder.

Cautiously, I lowered my hands from Noah’s chest and said, “I’m gonna get changed now. Please don’t kill each other.”

Rushing toward the sofa, I threw on my T-shirt and shorts before I slipped on my flip-flops.

“You ready, Aria?” Noah asked, never taking his eyes off Evan.

They exchanged silent threats: a toxic display of masculine pride through “Alpha male-glaring.” I imagined Noah as a big white wolf, baring his fangs and snarling at the black wolf across from him, who was ready to attack.

“I’m ready,” I finally answered.

“Good,” Noah replied.

The next thing I knew, I was thrown over his shoulder with my body dangling like a ragdoll.

“Oh, my God! Put me down!”

From wolf-man to cave dweller,I thought.Territorial or what?

“Stay the fuck away from my daughter,” he said to Evan. “We’re leaving now.”

“Noah!” I yelled in frustration.

There was no use in kicking and screaming. He would not let me down. Maybe he wanted to humiliate me. Marching out the door, he headed for the elevator at the end of the hall.

“What is this?” I shouted. “A military operation? Let go of me!”

“Stop talking.”

“Don’t tell me what to do!”

“You’re so annoying. You’re lucky I love you so much.”

“Put me down!Now!”

Noah stopped and pressed a button on the elevator while I continued to rant.
