“We have to talk about who is after you,” Austin says. His arms are crossed, and his face is serious.

“It doesn’t matter,” I say.

Saint snorts. “If they are connected to that man, you have some dangerous men after you. They have a reputation. None of it good.”

“I’ve never hidden that fact.”

“You haven’t shared it either,” Felix replies. The tips of his fingers slide up my bare arm, sending little spider webs of pleasure straight to my toes.

Setting the knife back down, I turn away from the mess I made and face Austin. “Is it a requirement to know with the contract?”

His lips turn into a flat, displeased line as he narrows his eyes at me. “No.”

I cross to the sink next to Saint and wash my hands as he stares down at me. I can feel all of them watching me, actually. But I ignore them as I lather the soap and silently sing the happy birthday song in my head. When I finish, I grab a paper towel and dry my hands as I turn back to face the stony face of my alpha.

My alpha.I like the ring of that, not that I’d ever say the words out loud. My heart kicks my ribcage with a painful thump, but I ignore it.

“It isn’t your problem.”

CHAPTER31

Saint

I’m prettysure Austin is going to explode. When Audrey turns off the water after ignoring him for over a minute and then faces him, I can see the urge to bend her over his knee and spank her. Not that he’d get very far with our little hellcat.

“It isn’t your problem.” The words are soft but feel like a gun going off and tearing straight through my soul. Of course it isn’t. She doesn’t want us.

Has Austin pieced it together yet? Felix’s change and her in our life… there really is only one thing that could havewokenhim up.

When he vibrates with barely contained rage and crosses the room slowly, like some sort of slasher flick villain, backing her into the metal wall next to me, I’d say he has.

He grips her chin, lifting her face to his. “That is where you’re wrong, princess. You are currently an asset to Zade enterprises. If something or someone is threatening our asset, we will handle it.”

She swallows, her throat working as her perfume blooms.

“You don’t own my life, Austin Zade, and I said it isn’t your problem. Asset or no asset. I won’t fuck up your mission.”

A smile tugs at my busted lip at her bravery. No one talks back to Austin except for Felix or me. As it cracks, I smother the grin that would piss off both the alpha and omega glaring at each other next to me.

I glance over at Felix, and he is shaking his head, not bothering to hide the grin. But he likes fireworks, and there will be a few going off shortly.

“Say that again, and I will bend you over my knee and spank you,” he threatens.

She clamps her mouth shut as her eyes repeat her words. Then she ducks under his arm, brushing against his body, and crosses the room to Felix.

“I’m not a child,Daddy,” she says.

When he slowly turns to look at her, I know how this is going to end. “Call the cleaners and meet me in my office. Apparently, our little omega needs to learn a very important lesson.”

Felix side steps as she attempts to hide behind him, and Austin descends on her, eliciting a little squeak as he tosses her over his shoulder. She slaps his back and squeals in outrage as he pushes out of the room.

Silence falls once they are gone, and I look impassively at the dead guy that Audrey obviously had a history with. I call the cleaners like Austin instructed. Leaning down, I snag his wallet from his back pocket and flip it open. I know the name. Rumors suggest that the man was involved in the De Luca take down, but there are also rumors that they eliminated the entire family. I’m not so sure that is the truth now. When I hang up, Felix meets my gaze as the pieces click into place.

“You did good. I’m surprised you didn’t pass out as soon as the blood appeared and that man’s insides fell to the floor.” I cross the room and press a kiss to his lips.

“Yeah, well, he deserved it. I wanted to cut him into pieces. But you’re right, I didn’t faint at the sight of the blood. Progress.”

The memory of the last time we tortured someone flashed a reminder of him out cold in this room. I had to stop getting the information we needed while I made sure he was okay. When he came to, I was positive he was going to pass out again. So tonight is a complete one-eighty.
