I went outside, ready to kill my father for this unforgivable betrayal, but as soon as I saw Vice, I stopped and didn’t move. He was holding both hands over his mouth while he watched something at our gate. Tears ran down his hands.

Through the arches Elle had built, I followed his sight…

Pops, at the open gate, chain links in his hands, was sweetly calling out, “Come on, baby girl… Come to your daddy… Where’d ya go, baby…” Over his shoulder, he hollered, “Charmain, I can’t find my Everleigh…”

Stunned into silence, I just stood there, watching my father’s mind disappear.

Mom’s words… “He has stopped.”

“Prez, please.” Vice’s shoulders shook as he tried to choke down sobs.

My Old Lady was gone and I realized I truly had no one to blame but her. I knew she went willingly. I wanted to hate Pops and Dagger, but without a doubt, I knew they would never force her. Elle was simply trying to do the right thing.

Now here I stood, no enemies in reach. No one to strike or kill. I only had a club that was about to end up like the Irish MC… As it crumbled after the loss of Elle’s mother and aunt…

Mom’s words floated through me, “Where do you stand?”

I knew one of the answers was on water, but what if there was a double meaning? Stand, or crumble?

The door behind me swung open. Jet rushed to my side. “It’s Diesel.”

Not able to take my stare from Dad, I asked, “What about him?”

He exhaled. “His kid is gone.”

Like a robot, I faced him. “What did you just say?”

Nostrils wide, trying to breathe when wanting to choke, he nodded. “An hour ago.”

Jaw locked, I demanded, “I have no more time for sniveling weakness. You know what I’m referring to.”

His eyes widened. I had just disrespected two highly regarded men in this club.

I growled, “I need straight answers from this point forward.”

Probably realizing I was all he had left, he lifted his chin. “Got it.”

“Elle left how long ago?”

The brother in him became sturdy, ready to join my fight. “According to security footage, four hours.”

Mom’s words… “Set your storm free…”

I observed Pops again. “Lorenzo had no intention of giving Ev back.” My hands became fists. “Go get a brother to watch over my dad. Church in two.”

Si was older than me, but there was a chain of command. “Yes, sir.” He ran back inside.

I looked to my best friend, knowing I was about to break his loving heart. “Enforcer, you are to protect your President.”

Agreeing, he took a step forward but stopped when I added, “That’s me.”

Body frozen, his mouth fell open. “Lynx—”

“Direct order.”

At that moment, another brother jogged past me and to my dad.

To Vice, I proclaimed, “Church. Let’s go.”
