I gestured to the screen. “This is our fucking livelihood I’m trying to protect!”

“Yeah. ‘Protect.’ ” Crunch, crunch, crunch, went the colored chocolates. “Not obsess over.”

“If you ever want to be my VP, shut your fucking mouth.”

He threw an M&M at my head. “Speaking of, when the fuck are we killing him anyway?”

For some reason, me hating Rosa kept Dad off my ass. Since the asshole no longer had me in his crosshairs, Piercer was now on his radar. I’d dealt with it for all my life. After just a couple of months, my brother was ready for me to shut that shit down.

And I was working on it, but first I had to deal with— “What the…?” That fucking winged bastard was now affectionately holding Rosa. I growled, “That’s it.”

I headed for the door until I heard Piercer’s chair scrape the wood flooring. “Why is there a glow in the playground?”

“Huh?” I rushed back to the monitor, bumping Piercer’s shoulder.

He blinked then blinked again to clear his eyes. “I swear, I just saw something.”

“You did.” Piercer’s eyes weren’t tricking him. Fuck-face angel-boy, with glowing wings, was holding Rosa. Jealousy had me wanting to kill him too, Rosa’s full attention on him while he told her something.

I had never wanted to read lips so bad. “Damnit.” I smacked the side of the monitor again. “Can’t hear shit!”

To the angel-prick, Rosa nodded, repeatedly, looking hopeful, which pissed me off even more. I wanted her as miserable as me, that two-faced supposed-to-murder me sneak.

Whatever I had witnessed Rosa approve, got angel-boy to work.

I stood there, covering my mouth while the angel rested his hand on Anita’s pregnant belly. Then, as if he maneuvered a dimmer switch inside the tiny slut, her belly began to light up, like a see-through egg.

I stumbled back a couple of steps. “Holy shit.” Even though I’d seen some weird shit since meeting Rosa, this still spooked me.

“What? What?” begged Pierce, knocking his candy bag to the side, causing a few to fall to the floor.

Inside Anita’s belly were two fucking babies, holding each other. I’d never seen nothing like it. My hand fell from my mouth to hang at my side. “He’s doing something to Anita.”

“Doing what? Doing what?”

Before I could answer, the phenomenon intensified. The angel’s wings got brighter, and now the babies were also taking on a glow. The fetuses did not move nor let each other go, as if they had a bond that was unbreakable.

Dumbfounded, and sensing the commitment the babies would carry throughout their lifetimes because Rosa cursed me with such abilities, I gazed at Piercer.

“What?” he asked.

I couldn’t quite find the words to describe to him what I was feeling, knowing our own bond didn’t compare. He wouldn’t always want what was truly best for me at all times. I sensed that, if the occasion arose, he would take me out for my position.

My stomach turned.

He was my most loyal.

Then I thought of Dad and how Pierce and I should’ve been committed to him. If I had sons, would they plot against me, too?

Piercer interrupted my thoughts with, “Is Anita like Rosa now?”

Distracted, I mumbled, “Maybe.”

Piercer put his face impossibly close to the screen, completely enthralled. “Wow.”

Watching him, I suddenly noticed his skin no longer took on a blue haze reflection like last time. Now it was golden… the same shade as the glowing babies.

A chill vibrated through me. Trying to shake it off, I wondered, “What is happening in there?”
