“God, please forgive me,” Weatherman quietly howled with the deepest regret before he got on his bike and rode into the night.

Diesel didn’t try to stop him. He seemed to sense when to let a man go work out his shit.

With me? He kept an arm around my shoulders as we both sat on the top step of the stairway, the moon shining down…

“Here I go again,” Diesel chuckled then coughed to clear his throat. “Thunder, the next time I saw that man, your Dio, he was hollow. The best parts of his life had been ripped away, and he was left with some sort of beast inside.”

Diesel didn’t know how close he was to the truth.

“It was like…” He stared into the dark pasture. “Like … the beast also missed you two.”

Yeah, Diesel might have been ‘only’ human, but he was gifted in his own right.

He had to know that, too. “She chose wisely.”

Distracted by the memory of Dio, he turned toward me, “Huh?”

“Rosa.”

Now I had his full attention, his eyes shining with a loss I’d seen in Dio’s.

I smiled, tears dripping. “Wise for choosing you. I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better man—father—to help me through all this.”

In one way or another, I was connected to four different MCs. I understood then that I always would be, but I had to choose one to be the patch on my back. In my heart, Redemption Ryders and Steel Stallions would always have a special place, however, Dio had been right all along... I was his boy and would be a Royal Bastard, just like him.

“I may not be able to wear your patch, Diesel, but know I’m your boy, too.”

Almost 6′2′′, I wasn’t a shrimp, but that big man held me like I was merely a kid in his arms. One he never wanted to let go of.

Pulling our shit together, we faced forward again. I sighed heavily. “So how do I go about patching into the Nevada chapter?”

Diesel huffed. “That’s where this is going to get real complicated.”

“Fuck.” The last thing I wanted were more complications in my life.

“You’re not exactly ‘prospect’ material.”

Exhausted by just the thought of going through that awful process again, I shrugged. “Lived through it once. I’ll survive it again.”

“Your mama spoke of purpose, as if hers was all she lived for. There was no way her whisper wasn’t full of meaning. You were her purpose. That means you have something very important to do. When I say you’re not exactly prospect material, it’s because you’re a president in the making if I’ve ever seen one.”

“Holy shit.” Now that I thought about it, I already had men behind me, waiting for me to figure this out.

Reading my expression, Diesel agreed, “Yeah… So how do you patch in? Nah. We need to figure out how you are going to start your own chapter.”

I was speechless.

After a bout of silence that made my ears ring, he joked, “Since you’re some sort of hybrid deity, I guess it won’t be too hard to figure it out.” A mischievous grin grew on his face. “I literally produced a god and can’t tell a goddamn…” Chuckling, he winced again. “Sorry.”

Thunder

It was in a dream that I first saw the mystical bolt of lightning. The field was empty, other than nature, grass, flowers, and surrounding trees in the distance. The sky was gray, all different shades. I didn’t see the sun or moon. It was a place that didn’t have either. There was rain, but it was strangely floating upward.

Feeling a presence, I called out, “Want to speak to me?”
