I groaned as he continued to massage my leg, making it plainly obvious what he wanted to do.

“You aren’t making it easy for me to hold back, handsome.”

He removed his hand from my leg, and a sense of relief and disappointment flooded through me at the same time. He smiled at me and leaned in for a kiss. It wasn’t as PG as it should have been, but sitting back here, we both hoped that no one could see us. We grabbed some food and took our seats in the box, waiting for the ballet to start.

I had to admit that it was more interesting than I had first thought and could totally understand why Daniel enjoyed it so. I watched as the dancers gracefully moved around the stage and would admit to imagining Daniel standing there in a pair of tight ballet trousers like the male dancers were wearing. They were leaving very little to the imagination. Once the first act had finished, I pulled the curtains across, as I wanted this moment to just be between the two of us.

Daniel walked in in front of me, and I decided that it was now or never and got down on one knee, waiting for Daniel to turn around. He started to turn and went to speak, then noticed me kneeling there with the ring box in my hand. A shocked look came across his face as he stepped towards me.

I reached out and took his hand before I started to speak. “Daniel, I know things between us haven’t been smooth sailing, but you have been the only person in my life until recently that I was able to show my true self to. You’ve shown and taught me what it feels like to be in love with the right person, and how it feels to love a man unconditionally. You have been patient with me, when others—and even I—haven’t. You make me want to give you the entire world when all I can really give you is myself. Daniel Cooper, will you give me the greatest honour of becoming mine forever? Will you marry me?”

I could see the tears appearing in his eyes as he nodded to me. I got up from the floor and placed the ring on his finger. It fit perfectly, as though it was made for him.

“Yes, I will marry you, Romeo.”

I went to kiss him, but he placed his hand on my chest to stop me. I was confused for a moment until he spoke again.

“I haven’t finished yet. I will marry you on one condition…”

He removed something from his pocket and then got down in front of me on one knee. “That you agree to marry me.”

I couldn’t believe that he’d had the exact same thought as me.

“Without you, Romeo, I’m not sure where I would have been. You saved me not only from a loveless marriage, but also from a life incarcerated in a prison cell. You, too, have shown me what true love with a man is. I cannot see my life without you in it. And with Daisy and Zach joining us, we will have our perfect little family.”

I couldn’t speak for a moment and, like him, just nodded my head. He got up and placed the ring on my finger. It was almost identical to the one I’d gotten for him, except instead of a diamond there was a deep blue sapphire on it. Daniel’s lips immediately crashed onto mine as we stood there in our embrace.

A knock at the door immediately pulled our attention back into the room.

“Come in.”

The door was opened, and Geoffrey walked in. He looked at our smiling faces and then down at our hands.

“Good, I didn’t arrive too early. I thought I would open the champagne for you, as it looks as though you have something to celebrate. Congratulations to you both. I hope you will be very happy together.”

We both laughed a little. He must have realised we were a couple, even though we had kept our closeness in check. It wasn’t that we were embarrassed, but we knew what some people would think, and we preferred our intimacy to be in private.

I turned to Geoffrey and spoke. “Thank you, Geoffrey. Yes, we do have something to celebrate, and it seems we both had the same idea, as we have both proposed to each other. So, champagne would be amazing right now.”

Geoffrey proceeded to open the champagne and pour us two glasses and then moved the ice bucket out onto the balcony so we could enjoy it during the second act. We enjoyed some more food and desserts before taking our seats for the second act.

Taking my hand in his, Daniel turned to me and spoke. “I love you, Romeo.”

“I love you too, handsome.”

With that, we enjoyed the rest of our evening and looked forward to our life together.
