Winona laughed. “And artistic too, I hope.”

“Yes, that!” Bucky laughed.

Dax came over as well. “Man, what a whirlwind, huh?” Dax said, clapping Rollo on the back as he took him aside, allowing the ladies to chat a bit on their own.

“You’re telling me,” Rollo replied.

“And what did I tell you? It would all work out with Winona.”

“Oh, is that what you told me? I thought you told me to forget her and focus on the mission.”

“Ah, tom-A-toe, Tom-AH-toe. It all worked out.” Dax laughed easily.

“It sure did.”

“So how is Bloom doing? It would have been nice if we could have gotten a few more answers.”

“She has been waiting for this for years, brother. I can’t say she’s ‘happy’, you know, but she is grateful. Yeah, there are still some questions, but we are a million times closer to the truth. And the monster that killed her father is dead. We had no choice. If you hadn’t killed him, I was about to. Did you feel that dark magic building? No good was going to come from that.”

“I know. Still, I wish we could have gotten all the answers.”

“We will, brother, we will.”

They were both silent for a moment.

“We need to know why he was killed, and who ordered it,” Dax said.

“Yeah. You know June mentioned that Dark magic, right? Made me think of the Dark Fae. But from what I know, they keep to their own realm. I mean, last these parts heard of them was king Firo. Right?”

“I think so, but that was like a hundred years ago or something.” Dax said, leveling a look at him that was generally reserved for pack business. “I have a sinking feeling I might need to talk more with June about my Fae Studies.”

“Well I don’t envy you that. Though I am sure you’re going to rope me in on that too,” he laughed.

“Probably, but in the meantime, you know the drill.”

Rollo looked at him quizzically.

“Stay vigilant.”

“Isn’t that what we do, boss? Stay alert? Protect our own?”

“Don’t you know it, buddy,” he said. “But for now we celebrate. We won.

“And hey, brother”, he said, handing him a beer. “To James and Cindy.”

They clinked bottles.

“You did well.”

They exchanged a hug before Rollo raised a toast with his beer to the wider room. To my brother James and his wife Cindy, and to Bloom’s father, Corbin. May they rest in peace!

“Hear hear!” came a surprisingly festive call.

“May they all live on in our hearts!”

“Huzzah!” came the response, even stronger this time.

“And to new friends, family and mates!”
