“But,” he said, breaking the moment. “I think we need to talk about last night.”

I nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. Last night had been intense, to say the least. Teo’s possessiveness had reared its head in a way that made my head spin. The spanking had sent me over the edge and sleeping with Grayson hadn’t felt like a punishment.

“Grayson, I...”

“Wait,” he said. “Let me talk first.”

I looked at him, waiting for him to say his piece.

“I know that Teo can be overwhelming,” he said, taking a sharp right into a street I didn’t recognize. “And you might be feeling conflicted about that. I get that, but Teo has always been like this. It’s part of the job.”

“The job?”

“Being the boss,” Grayson said. “When you’re the head of a gang, there’s always a target on your back. When the law comes after us, his head is on the chopping block, you know? He has to be strong and assertive to keep himself safe, to keep all of us safe.”

I swallowed, feeling a sense of unease settle in my stomach. This world was so foreign to me, and I didn’t know if I could handle it. Every time they talked about a situation like this, the knot in my stomach felt like it tightened.

“And of course, it’s worse with you,” he said. “You’re...”

“What?” I asked when he trailed off.

“You’re the only woman who’s ever been allowed inside our inner circle,” he said, turning to me with a serious expression. “You’re special, Sofia. Teo sees that, we all see that.”

“You guys have never had girlfriends?” I asked, smiling at him.

He didn’t reply at first. “Sure,” he said. “No one like you. No one who was actually part of this.”

“What do you mean?”

“You’re special, Sof,” he said as he pulled into a parking lot. “And I think it’s time that you see it.”

Chapter Five: Grayson

Itookhertoone of the buildings in Winter Park that we were working on turning into a nightclub. The top of the building itself was a parking lot, with an incredible view of the city skyline. I walked around the other side of the car to open her door and she took my hand, which was small and soft in mine.

We took a few steps toward the edge and her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her.

“This...this is amazing,” she whispered, her voice filled with wonder.

“I thought you might like it,” I said, turning to her and taking in the way the tall buildings and the azure sky reflected in her dark eyes. She was stunning.

“It’s incredible,” she said, taking a deep breath of fresh air. “How did you find this place?”

I shrugged. “It’s one of our properties,” I said. “We’re working on turning it into a club. But right now it’s just an empty shell.”

“How many clubs do you guys have?” she asked, her brow furrowed as she leaned the concrete railing.

I did a quick count in my head. “Fifteen, two opening next year,” I said.

“Why do I only know about Neon?” she asked.

“You know about more than Neon, we just don’t take the credit for the rest of them. We also own restaurants, hotels, and other businesses,” I explained. “But Neon is our flagship club, so to speak. The one we put most of our effort into.”

The wind whipped her hair as she leaned forward to look down. We weren’t too high up--only a couple of floors, really--but it still made me nervous. I put a steadying hand on the small of her back. She turned to look at me with a smile. “Thank you for bringing me here, Grayson,” she said softly.

We stood there in silence for a while, taking in the view and the cool night air. I knew we had to talk about what happened between us and Teo, but I didn’t want to ruin this moment.

“So,” she said, breaking the silence. “Did you finish your point?”
