“I need you to fuck me.” The words weren’t soft. They came in a steady voice as I looked him right in the eyes.

“Why?”

I growled.

“You didn’t think this would be easy, did you? It never has been. Not once. Not when you gave in, and it never will be. We are both going to expect more from each other than anyone else because we won’t settle for the walls others allow, Dominic. I don’t want the parts of you that you give to everyone. I don’t want the easy parts. I want the parts I have to claw out of you, even if I have to pin you to the ground and take them.” He sealed his mouth over mine, promises written with his tongue.

He slid forward, connecting us again, stretching me wide open, and he didn’t stop there. He deepened the kiss, fucking me with his tongue. I grabbed onto his shoulder and the back of his neck, meeting his thrusts, coming together over and over, reveling in the intensity of him.

“No.”

“Hmmm?”

“I didn’t think it would be easy,” I said between kisses.

“You’ll catch up.” His smile pressed into my lips, and his joy became infectious.

“And if they kill me for this?” I arched into him, changing the angle, grinding our bodies together in a slow burn.

“They’ll have to tear me apart piece by piece to get to you, Dominic. You belong to me.”

I threaded my fingers through his hair, desperately trying to get closer. “I need you to make me forget everything else. Tear me open so only you exist.”

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“Your honesty is a gift. And I apologize in advance.”

Before I could ask, my face was in the dirt, and he took me from behind, arm around my throat, squeezing and arching me backward into him.

I lost myself in him.

Pain and pleasure meeting in a clash of unnatural fate.

Another shift. Of my world and priorities. I’d always thought I accepted my fate, but I’d only opened my arms to the easy part of it.

Death was easy. Love never would be.

Not between the two of us.

We walked hand in hand back.

I could sleep the day away. I wasn’t in a rush to talk to my brothers, either. All of it would come in like the tide, wanted or not, so I wasn’t about to run to it.

Tonight was for my mate.

Because my days were numbered, this urgency for him crept into my chest. The weight of it didn’t seem quite so heavy tonight, and for that, I thanked the Gods. He paused outside my house, pulling me by the arm and making me spin in place. Eyes on me, he brought my hand to his lips and kissed over my knuckles, whispering something I didn’t hear.

“Hmm?” I asked.

He shook his head. “It’s between me and your wolf. He heard me.”

I lifted a brow but didn’t challenge it. Even the wolf was different after tonight. He had an understanding with Vin. No idea what their arrangement was, but it was there, unspoken.

“I’m surprised you don’t want to go to bed after chasing me half the night.”

“I do, but this is more important.” Slivers of light streaked across his face, cutting down between our bare bodies pressed together.
