I’m on my feet and the walls spin. I grab the back of my chair, knuckles turning white.

“She left,” Jude says more quietly, looking at me in shock. He thinks I knew?

“When did she—why? I don’t…”

Everything goes blurry. Jude is on his feet, grabbing my shoulder.

“Whoa whoa, sit down, Isaiah.Now.” There’s an urgency in his voice and I do as he says. I do not completely pass out, and I promise myself I won’t.

“I w…” My voice is wobbly, dammit. “I was about to find her, to talk to her before the show. I can’t go on stage when I’ve left things like that with her, I can’t function properly, I can’t…”

Jude is kneeling next to my chair.

“She has decided to leave, Isaiah,” is all he says, infinite sadness replacing the anger in his voice. “I don’t know if she’s still in Athens, but she said goodbye to me.”

She said goodbye to him.

She said goodbye to the only person that mattered to her.

I try to stand but everything spins so hard, I fall back again. “Is it possible she’s not left yet?” I ask him, but he’s already typing furiously on his phone.

Texting Eden.

“She’s offline,” he says in a second. “Want me to call Skye?”

I nod, and Jude runs off to make the call. I just stand there, numb. I don’t know what to think, what to do. What to feel.

And then.

My phone rings. It’s Spencer.

“Hello?” My voice is all wrong.

“You all right, mate?” Spencer asks, concern hooding his green eyes. I shouldn’t have accepted the video call. Just sound would have been fine. Or not fine.

“Sure,” I croak.

“You need some freaking powerful tea.”

“Yeah, like tea will help me grow new vocal cords.” Seriously, Spencer and his tea. Like my vocal cords are what’s wrong with me right now.

“Might do.” He appears to be considering it. “You look like hell, Isaiah, seriously.” I’m waiting to see why he called me as soon as his plane touched down. “Are you ready for tomorrow?”

“As I’ll ever be. Everything ok in Vermont?”

“Yeah, fine,” he smiles a bit, but his lips are tight. “Listen, I know this isn’t a good time, but I think you need to know that Eden left the crew yesterday. She… she won’t get full credits for the job, as she didn’t complete the assignment.”

“What?” I nearly jump a foot in the air. “Why the hell would she not? She worked far more than she was supposed to, she needs to get double credits, not…”

“Fine, ok, mate, ok.” Spencer looks completely freaked out by my outburst. “I’ll give her whatever credits you tell me.”

“Good.” I can’t breathe. I drag my hand through my hair so hard my scalp hurts. “Listen, did Eden tell you why she left? Did anyone upset her?”

“Yeah,” Spencer is silent for a bit. “You.”

I sit down heavily on the floor, my back boneless against the wall. Of course it was me, I know that. I kissed her and then I asked her if she was with Jude. Then again, I don’t understand what she wants.
