“I told you, I came here for you.”

I know that now. I know what it means. Hot tears pour down my cheeks.

“I’m so sorry.” I finally say it. “I’m so sorry, Eden. I’m so sorry.”

She keeps murmuring that it’s ok, stroking my dripping hair and smoothing it away from my eyes. It’s as if no one else exists but me for her. She doesn’t once look towards the sea of people around us, nor does she give any attention to their screaming and clapping. She keeps running her fingers through my hair, calming me.

“Can you breathe now?” She asks, sounding scared. Dammit, I never want her to be scared again. I swallow hard.

“Breathe? I’m dying here.” To my surprise, I hear her laugh.

Her knee brushes against my hip and a jolt goes through me as she leans closer.

“Well, what do you think I’m doing?” she says in a hoarse, broken voice. I lift my head to look at her for the first time since the song. Her lips are swollen, her eyes luminous with tears. “That… thing you sang,” she sniffles. Is she crying? “Did you think I could handle that? After thinking you hated me all this time, after…” Her voice breaks, and my heart breaks with it.

“Man, I love you,” I tell her, before my body gives out.

The Elliot sisters chat room

Faith: Eden, sweetie, are you ok? It seems like a lot is happening over there.

Manuela: She’s not looking at her phone right now, Fee.

Manuela: Boy, does it look like we’re missing the concert of the century.

Faith: I’m worried about her.

Manuela: She can handle herself.

Manuela: I’m worried too.

Faith: I hope she takes him back. He’s dying.

Manuela: I hope she doesn’t.

Faith: WHAT? WHY?

Manuela: Ok, calm down. Just my opinion.

Faith: EXPLAIN

Manuela: Good to see you calming down a bit.

Manuela: Just because of what she said. She’s afraid he’ll hurt her again.

Faith: Yeah, she did say that.

Manuela: She can’t get hurt again. She just can’t.

Faith: She can’t be alive without getting hurt. That’s what life does. It hurts you.

Manuela: Since when did you get to be so wise?

Manuela: But you’re right. Except she’s been far more hurt by life already.

Faith: She’s had way more than her share.

Manuela: More than a lion’s share.
