Options? She had options? Relief coursed through her. She had options. “Which is?”
Yesterday threw her a look of unadulterated scorn. “Summon Asmodeus.”
Nope. No options. Not a one. “I’m not doing that.”
“You must.”
Not to mention she wasn’t quite sure how she’d summoned him in the first place.
Some hell hound part thudded against the door.
Eddie and Yesterday jumped back.
More door thumping, in a rhythmic pattern like the damned thing was trying to pound its way out.
She dug her phone from her pocket. “Maybe Dee—”
An ominous crack came from the door frame. You would have thought they would have built the door guarding a hell gate strong enough to withstand assault by hell hound.
“Summon him,” Yesterday hissed. “Before they break that door down and kill us.”
Not Dee then.
A second set of pounding made a counterpoint to the first set. Both hell hounds were trying to bust their way out now.
“I don’t know how to summon Asmodeus.” She joined Yesterday behind the propane tank as she scanned the area for a weapon. “Do they like meat?”
“Not unless it’s attached to a soul they want.” Yesterday’s eyes were the size of dinner plates as he watched the door jump and judder in its jam. “You have magic, summon him.”
“I don’t have magic.”
“Yes, you do.”
Craaack.
“Asmodeus,” Eddie shrieked. “Shade! I summon you.”
Yesterday gaped at her. “Not like that.”
“I told you I don’t know how.”
The door pounding increased in pace.
Yesterday pinwheeled his arms frantically. “Summon him like you did before.”
Like she had before? She hadn’t summoned him. She’d only dreamed about him. “I dreamed about him.”
“Do it again,” Yesterday squeaked as the door gave an ominous groan.
“I’m not sleeping.”
“Imagine you are.”
Oh, this was a fucking horrible idea. Eddie squeezed her eyes shut and tried to picture Shade. The assault the door was taking kept breaking her concentration. “I can’t.”
“Try harder.”
The door warped in its frame, and a series of excited yips came from the hell hounds.
