“Mark? Maaa…” she loses her words as I lick her from bottom to top, my tongue hard and flat and probably too fast. But I just can’t hold back.

I attack her entrance and let her grip my hair. I love it when she does that. Which is weird. But fine. I want more. So I move up and suck, adding fingers and moaning when she bucks up into my face.

Fuck, I am a lucky man. She’s so responsive. So eager. For me. And only ever me. I groan. How am I ever going to let her go? Let someone else touch her, taste her? I tighten my hold on her thighs.

“Say you’re mine, Ellie.”

“I’m yours.”

I push harder into her and curl my fingers. “Again.”

“I’m yours! I’m yours, Mark. Mark!” She comes on my fingers like a vision. Like a beacon. A light in the bleak wasteland that is my room, my house, my life. At least, my life before her.

And soon, my life after her.

It’s not just for my sanity anymore. Not just so I can focus. Now, it’s about her.

I have to free her from my life. From me. From my mission and secrets and lies and demons and everything. All of it.

I have to man up and let her go.

CHAPTER 31

Eleanna

Mark is off. He’s been home for a week, but more distant. Well, other than his arrival in the middle of the night. After he ruined me in the best way, he wouldn’t let me reciprocate. Since then, it’s just been a scowl andYou’re not healed enough for what I want to do to you.

Which is the most thrilling and irritating thing I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m fine! My arm hurts, big deal. My skin will be recovering for a long time. Meanwhile, my libido is healthier than ever. Every night when he drapes an arm over me, I grow more frustrated.

I am wakeful and on edge, so I woke up as soon as I heard the hair dryer running. He seems to be leaving earlier and getting home later. The forehead kisses are gone. The genuine smiles have disappeared. He’s had a few meals with me, but refuses to really talk. But I’m tired of being all alone again. I turn on a lamp and look myself over in the dresser mirror. Just as I’m about to charge into the bathroom in this nightie I know he likes, the door opens.

He stops when he sees me awake. He looks amazing. Of course. His dark brown hair is perfect, his jaw is freshly shaved. His eyes are alert and they darken when he looks me up and down.

“Good morning.” He murmurs on his way to me.

But.

The smell.

He smells wrong.

Hairspray.

I cough and fight the bile.

“Eleanna? What is it?” He calls after me as I shove past him to the sink. I splash water on my face. He comes up behind me. “What happened just then? You’re white as a ghost.”

“Did…did you get new hairspray?”

His head tilts as his brows scrunch. “I ran out of my usual gel. That’s old, it’s what I found under the sink. Why?”

“I…I’m allergic.”

He squints at me in the mirror. I don’t make eye contact, I can’t. I keep rubbing the cool water on the back of my neck. “…Allergic.” He finally drawls.

“Yeah, um, can we just toss that? I can order more of your gel?”

“Of course. Don’t worry about ordering. I’ll have Ric grab some while we’re out.” He reaches around me to his cabinet and grabs the aerosol can. He tosses it into the trash and then turns me to face him. “Better?” I nod. He looks down at me and his jaw twitches. He exhales, “You’re shaking.”
