"Since Pops will likely want to get started in the morning at the butt crack of dawn, we'd better get some sleep," Drew interrupted Hope's thoughts.

"You make him sound terrible."

"Not terrible. Relentless." He sat forward in the recliner. "Like a dog with a bone. Especially when he has his mind set on something." He smiled knowingly. "You'll see."

"He just wants you to stay. To have his family all in one place." As the words left her lips, Hope felt the knife slice through her heart at the reminder he could very well decide not to return to Kentucky.

"That's his number one priority for sure."

"Can you blame him?"

Drew's gaze locked on hers. The dimness in the room darkened his eyes. "No, I guess not." He rose from the chair. "But that won't make his campaign any less exhausting." Turning, Drew carried his empty glass to the sink, rinsed it out, and stuck it in the dishwasher.

"Since you probably want to shower, I'll just curl up here on the sofa for the night.”

"No," Drew replied and closed the dishwasher. "You get the bed."

Hope looked from Drew to the couch. There was no way in hell he would get any kind of rest trying to fit his six-foot-plus frame on the raised-arm, three-cushion sofa. She doubted the recliners would be much better. "That's ridiculous."

"What? For you to sleep in a bed?"

"No, dumb ass. Foryouto sleep on the couch."

"But I'm not pregnant."

"And I didn't spend twelve hours driving across two states. Nor am I twice the length of that sofa."

"But..."

Hope raised her palm toward him, stopping him from saying anything more. "I appreciate you being a gentleman, Drew, but do you really think I'll get a wink of sleep knowing how cramped up you’ll be on this couch?"

"And you think I’ll sleep any better with you out here?"

Lord, they were a hot mess.

Then, it hit her. "We do have one other option."

"We do?" Skeptically, he narrowed his gaze.

"Yeah." Hope nodded. "I'm sure that king-sized bed in there is plenty big enough for us both to be comfortable and get a much-needed good night's sleep."

He arched a dark brow. "You sure about that?"

"About what? That the bed is big enough for us both to be comfortable, or that we'll get a good night's sleep?"

"Either." Drew cocked his head to the side. "Or both."

Hope shrugged. "I'm already pregnant, Drew. For us to sleep separately would be like closing the barn door after the horse already got out, don't you think?"

The furrow deepened between his brows, indicating he wasn't sure he agreed with her logic. "You need to be absolutely sure, because there's no guarantee we won't accidentally touch in the night. So, if that's going to be a problem, I better sleep out here."

"It won't be a problem," she assured him.

"You're sure?"

Too tired to argue further, Hope sighed and headed for the bedroom. "Turn out the lights."

By the time Drew emerged from the bathroom, Hope was snuggled under the covers on the left side of the California king. "Want me to leave the light on and crack the door a little in case you have to get up in the night?"
