He might have passed the test, after all. “Why do you ask, pumpkin? You want out?”

Lia hesitated for no more than a sechiona. “No. I wanted before but...” She shrugged. “I’ve always been a sucker for a good cause, I suppose. And adventure.”

It was as if the weight of a dwarf planet had fallen off Dargus’ shoulders. He grinned. “See? We’re a perfect match.”

She rolled her eyes but had a smile on.

His gaze automatically dropped to her mouth.

She bit her bottom lip.

Welcome back, raging hard-on.

“I should let you get some rest,” he mumbled. While staying exactly where he was.

“You should get some sleep, too, Dar,” she told him, eyes on his lips.

“Yeah…”

“Mhm…”

Kiss her, you fool, kiss her now!

“Pumpkin, I…”Yes, that’s it, slide along the step towards her.

“Yes?”

Did she just slide closer too?

His tail wound around her wrist on its own accord.

Lia lifted her slender hand towards his face–

Cheeeep.

Cubbie’s sneeze sent Lia falling off the step.

Dargus’ tail was the only reason his startled female did not face-plant in the lumpy replicated cushions. His hold around her wrist broke her fall in time for her to land on her knees.

“What was that?!”

Dargus couldn’t hold in his chuckle, as poor as Cubbie’s timing had been. “That was your fur baby sneezing. Replicated padding tends to bother his nose.”

“Oh.” Lia blushed, perhaps in embarrassment at her overreaction. “I thought we were getting boarded again or something.”

“No, pumpkin, no one has the right to stop us for an inspection in this sector.” He reluctantly released her wrist and got up, the moment for kissing no longer right. That’s what happens when you waste time talking!“Don’t worry. Rest in peace now.”

Her eyes widened in that Luvian-like way that made Dargus' heart fill with warmth every time he saw it on her face. Then she burst out laughing.

“What is it, my pumpkin?” he asked through a grin. Her laughter was contagious.

She waved her hand. “Never,” giggle, “mind. You going torestin peace too?” Another giggle.

“I hope so.”

The truth was the examination bed was as good for sleeping as the food bay table. As in, not at all. But Lia had made it clear on the bridge that if she went to the nest, it would be alone. So, what awaited Dargus this sleeping cycle was tossing and turning on the hard examination bed with a hard-on, thinking of her sprawled in his nest.

“I’ll get going now, Lia.”
