Every time this man touched her, he set all her nerve endings ablaze. When Emilia was next to him, she was ready to believe true mates existed outside of romance books. When alone, she was questioning her sanity: how could she be jumping Dar’s bones when she hardly knew the extraterrestrial guy?

“Is this all right?”

“What?” She turned to look up at his face. His lips were so close…

“Me holding you so close? I felt you shiver–”

“Oh, no, it’s fine. It’s just that,”your touch is electrifying, “I didn’t expect it. That’s all.”

“Forgive me, Lia, I didn’t ask for permission. It’s for the sake of appearances.”

“I get it. It’s really fine, Dar.”You’re damn fine.

“It’s not that we arenottrue mates for real. I would shout it out loud, had you accepted my mating tail ring… I don’t want you to feel pressured or anything…”

“Dar. It’s. Fine. Relax.”

The tension left the muscles of his arm against her back. The matter settled, he led her away from the landing pad.

Jeez. How could they have been all over each other a short while ago, and still be this awkward around one another when fully clothed? Go figure.

Perhaps it’s because you hardly know each other outside of the bedroom?

Perhaps. But here on this shopping mall of a moon was not the place to ask Dar more personal questions. They had a job to do, they had to stay alert, and she was distracted by everything around her.

Including the sight of theDickionmoving away under the supervision of a tiny humanoid robot with a flying saucer for a head.

“TheDickionis cigar-shaped?”

“Yes?”

“That’s the shape of most UFOs reported by eyewitnesses on Earth,” Emilia told Dar while he led them towards a glass bubble at the end of the landing pad.

“It’s a popular shape. But theDickionis more or less unique.” The pride in Dar’s voice could not be mistaken. “Not many ships of her model were produced when I bought her, and I’ve upgraded her a bit, particularly on the inside.”

“She’s a beauty.” That was no lie. TheDickionwas made of perfectly smooth silver-like metal, well-proportioned between thick and long.

Emilia chortled.

“What is it, pumpkin?”

“Nothing… Are we going to take a decontamination shower or something?”

It was his turn to laugh. “This,” Dar told her as he led her into the glass bubble, “is our ride to the surface.”

She took a look around the space, which looked like a bigger version of Dar’s shower cabin. It could certainly accommodate six people. Sixhumans.“There are no controls here?”

“It’s fully automated. It will take us straight to the marketplace.”

“Oh. Oh!”

The bubble rose off the metal platform as soon as the glass door slid shut behind Dar. Emilia clung to him, afraid she’d fall, but their ride was absolutely smooth as they moved away from the arrivals’ zone and into a tunnel designated for ‘bubbles’ only.

“How fast are we going?”

“Ninety-nine miles per hour.”

She gulped. That would explain why the green lights in the tunnel blurred before her eyes. Aside from that, there was no way to tell they were speeding, but she kept clutching Dar’s jacket just in case.
