“I didn’t lie. I just didn’t tell you,” he says watching me intently.

“Oh that’s not the same thing is it?” I hiss in his direction, shoving him once more.

“Keep your hands off me, Evangeline.” It’s a warning, one I don’t take. I shove him once more when his hands are on me. He spins me, shoving me down on the counter. His mother gasps as my face hits the marble.

“Dominic!” She scolds him, but he isn’t listening to her. He’s focused on me.

“What are you going to do? Fuck me in front of your mother? Isn’t that how you fix everything, Dom?” I taunt him.

“You’re my wife. I will do what I want to you,” he reminds me. I smirk and look over my shoulder at him.

“You can’t get your own way all the time. Not anymore.”

“Is that right?” His hand is on my hip, slowly rising when I move. I twist my hips and manage to roll over, my back pressing into the counter. I reach up and shove at him, pushing with all my might. He moves back allowing me to get up and then I attack. My fists fly through the air, hitting him where I know it’ll hurt. Dom grabs me, wrapping his arms around me when he’s had enough.

“Are you done yet?”

“When will you stop lying to me? Will you ever?” I ask feeling as pissed as ever now. I’m tired. Tired of the lies.

“I didn’t tell you, Eva. There’s a difference.”

“Is there?”

“Yes, there is. Now calm down if you want to know anything further!” His words are sharp. I nod my head and he releases me. I move around the counter as his mother watches us with her mouth open. Sitting back on the stool, I stare straight ahead and wait.

“I was focused on you. Someone,” he says looking to his mother before he finishes, “Cut him free and he ran. I was too busy making sure you were okay.”

“How stupid could you be? Huh? You turned your back on him?” I hiss each word pissed that he would do such a thing.

“I was worried about you, Evangeline.”

“You shouldn’t have been! You should have been focused on the man that tried to kill you. What the hell, Dom?”

“It was my fault. I didn’t want to believe he’d do such a thing,” his mother says.

“And yet he did. I held your son while he bleed all over my wedding dress. I held him and begged him not to go!”

“Don’t yell at her,” Dom warns me.

“She let him go! She cut him free, Dom. Now what? What do we do now because he doesn’t get to walk this earth a free man.” Dom’s eyes find mine and he can see it. The rage, the anger in me.

“I’ll find him and kill him.”

“We, Dominic. We will find him and kill him.”

“Are we partners now?” he asks.

“We’ve been partners since I said I do.”

Iwatch him from across the room. He thinks I’m reading, but I’m not. I can’t. I’m too focused on him. His fingers type away at this keyboard as I watch him in awe. He’s beautiful. A monster. My monster. He’s been working none stop to figure out where his father is and I’ve been sitting here every step of the way. I’ve asked Vin to help me in my own search but those bridges have been burned to ash and he will no longer go against Dom. I suppose I deserved that.

“Stop watching me, Eva.”

“Or what? What will you do?” He looks up from his laptop and our eyes meet from across the room.

“You aren’t helping me.”
