“What can I do? If you’d give me any information maybe I could.”

“Why is it so hard for you to understand that I don’t want you in harm’s way? I want you safe.”

“You want me to be the good little wife and sit at home. I’m not her anymore,” I remind him. He nods his head as he runs his hand through his hair.

“I know that. I’ve seen the change in you.”

“And you don’t like it?”

“No. I don’t like it. I don’t like that I’ve killed in front of you. I don’t like that you’ve turned into everything you hated,” he says closing the laptop and standing from his seat.

“I don’t regret it,” I tell him as he walks toward me and sits on the couch next to me. He sits with his legs spread, elbows resting on his knees with his head in his hands.

“I do. I regret ever taking you because I know how much you hated this world. You didn’t want this, Eva.”

“I wanted you though, Dom. I knew what world came with that. I knew what I was facing when I agreed to give you that six months.”

“And yet I fucked up,” he says.

“I love you, Dominic.” He turns his head to look over at me and smiles. It’s heart shattering. He’s the picture of pure perfection and he’s mine. I reach up and run my fingers along his cheek as he watches me.

“We’re going to find him.”

“I know we are,” I whisper softly before pulling his face to mine. I press my lips to his and savor every taste of him. My tongue forces its way into his mouth, stroking his before he takes over. He moves, laying me back on the couch, his lips devouring mine.

“I’m sorry, Eva.”

“So am I.”

“You did nothing wrong,” he says, brushing the hair away from my face.

“I lost myself, Dom. I lost who I was because all I could think about was killing the people that killed you.”

“And I love you for that. I love everything about you,” he says pressing his lips to mine once more.

“How badly were you hurt?” It’s a question that’s been lingering on my mind since he came back. I’ve not asked, I’ve not looked at his scars. Dom pushes off me and stands, unbuttoning his shirt as he goes. Slowly he pulls his shirt back, revealing the scars that I’ve wondered about for a while now. I sit up, reaching my hand out and running my fingers over the scars that I see.

“Three shots. They had to surgically go in and remove two.”

“My God,” I whisper. “There was so much blood. There were nights that I woke up and all I could see was you lying there.”

“I’m sorry.” His hand comes up to cover mine before my eyes move to meet his. Just like always I’m sucked into him. I’m lost in all that is Dom.

“I thought about you every day. I had people keep tabs on you to be sure you were okay but they never got too close. They never saw what was happening behind the scenes, Eva.”

“That was the point.”

“I know and I don’t know what to say about it.”

“Say nothing. I did what I had to do. I couldn’t let your death mean nothing.”

“Kiss me, Eva.” His change of subject isn’t shocking. He does that a lot. I shove myself off the couch and stand in front of him, lowering my head to press a kiss to each of the three scars that linger on his body. He sucks in a breath and wraps his hand around the back of my neck pulling my head up to meet his. His lips claim mine in a kiss that rivals all others. I can feel him. Feel how much he loves me with this kiss. I can feel the regret, the pain. I can feel it all and I want it. I crave it.

“Dom!” He doesn’t stop kissing me even when Roni calls his name. He kisses me a longer and harder before finally pulling away from me.

“What?”

“Your father has been found. Should we take him to the regular warehouse?”
