It must be that book, something about that book scared me, something told me that I would find secrets even bigger and I was scared of finding that out.

I was scared it would be something I didn’t want to know, and for the first time, an inanimate object scared me.

From the bathroom, I peered at the journal on the table and it seemed like a weapon to me. A weapon that could either destroy me, Cedric, my mother, or most probably, all of us. A part of me wanted to know who it would be, a part of me wanted to know more secrets, but the other part was scared.

My phone rang again, for the fourth time and I knew it was my mother. She did tell me to call her back if I found the documents, but I wasn’t ready to talk to her. She disgusted me and I didn’t know how to look at her or even talk to her after what I just read.

I wiped my face with a towel and returned to the table. My phone rang again and it was Yusuf this time. I picked it up immediately and placed it on speaker. “Hello.”

“Hi Alex, this is Yusuf.”

“I know,” I replied.

“Wow, you have my number saved?” He teased me, but little did he know that I was in no mood to give a sarcastic comeback.

“What do you want?” I changed the topic. We weren’t here to talk about whose number I saved and whose number I didn’t.

“Ah yeah, I called for something important. Cedric’s investigator traveled to South Africa,” he stuttered, his voice full of worry and I widened my eyes.

“Why?”

“To find your first kill, to findAlex’sfirst kill. He found out already that your first kill was Austin Frank and now he’s either going to investigate what he did to you or who he was to you.” I hit my fist on the table in frustration. It was inevitable, the man was smart, verysmart. The first proof of that was him immediately saying that he would trace my first kill to me.

Technically, my dad was my first kill, but I didn’t kill him as Alex, I killed him as his daughter —as Jordan Vincenzo. Plus, I didn’t leave any note at his death scene and that was why he wouldn’t be counted as Alex’s kill.

I should have killed Mr Tee the moment I realized he was a smartass. I should have known he would be a thorn in my fucking side.

“What do we do? He will surely find out who you are in South Africa.”

“When did you find out he’s traveling to South Africa and why didn’t you fucking tell me?” I demanded, my voice low.

“Oh come on, I would never keep such a thing from you if I knew. I called immediately I found out.”

I groaned. I didn’t know what to do, I was conflicted. I couldn’t go to South Africa in search of Mr Tee, because I didn’t know how far he was with his investigation and I didn’t want to leave Ariana and Ken unprotected.

“What do you think?”

“I think we need to cover up your tracks. We need to confuse him and we can do it from here.Ican do it from here.”

“How Yusuf, how? He’s there already, probably finding out who I am and planning to…” I stopped to take a breath as I was getting frustrated and really worried. It was getting harder to keep Ariana and Kendal safe.

“You leave that to me. Call that guy you call your private investigator and tell him to log out your information from the internet. Also tell him to block access to view your statistics, both as Jordan and Alexis, and tell him to shut down your cyber guide.”

“Okay,” I muttered.

“Cool, I’ll do my thing from here. For the time being, don’t strike anybody. Don’t execute any plan, both personal and professional.”

“Okay,” I muttered again and I heard him sigh.

“You don’t have to worry, we will never let anything happen to you and by we, I mean Gideon and I.”

“Don’t let him hear that, he might puke.” I taunted and Yusuf chuckled.

“Well it’s good to know you’re not as worried as I first thought.”

I was worried. I was even more worried than he thought, but I wasn’t worried about me, I was worried about Ariana and Kendal. I could never let anything happen to them.

“I’ll talk to you later. Remember, no execution for now, both personal and business.” He warned and hung up, I sighed and threw the phone on my bed.
