“Leave.” He went to his room, and my confused brothers stared at each other, then at me. They also never sat to think about why Uncle Chris would steal dad’s money? They were best friends for fucks sake.

I ran my hand through my hair in frustration as I finally confirmed my suspicion. Something did happen for Jordan’s dad to run away with my dad’s money, but what was it? If dad won’t tell me, then who would?

The only other person that could tell was Jordan’s dad and he… wait where was Jordan’s dad? Or mom? Oh my God I was stupid, I didn’t even ask about them.

The issue would get resolved soon. If Jordan and I just talked to Uncle Chris about why he stole dad’s money, then we would know the next step to take. Dad already said he was getting revenge, but revenge for what?

ALEXIS

“Didn’t you see the news? They said they’re planning to write a petition to Alex for her to create her own Justice Squad. That is great, right?” Gideon said to Yusuf.

“It is,” he responded, nodding.

“I just hope she accepts it, she’s a bitch whose ways are so unpredictable.” Yusuf chuckled, staring at his laptop.

“Her last name should be unpredictable. Alex Unpredictable,” Gideon continued, raising his hand as if writing my name in the air. Yusuf chuckled in response again.

“Talking about the bitch, who’s next on her list?”

“You do know I’m sitting right here, right?” I asked as I flicked my cigarette and blew out smoke from my mouth.

“We do know. Now who’s next on your list?”

“Sam Antonio.”

“Okay,” Yusuf clicked on his laptop. “Sam Antonio, thirty years old, twin to Rick Antonio, investment banker, single, currently owns three houses here and two in Houston, net worth is two hundred and forty seven million.”

“Good for him.” Gideon scoffed out.

“Do you know where he is?”

“Right now?” Yusuf asked and I stared at him dryly, he chortled. “Right, okay so…” he typed on his computer. “He’s at a bar… Fresh Bar.”

I stood up and they both looked at me. “Hey hold up, don’t go yet,” Yusuf started.

I shrugged. “Why not?”

“Because… oh yeah why not?” Gideon stopped and turned to Yusuf for him to explain why he told me not to go.

“I don’t have a reason either, you can leave.” He said and I rolled my eyes. What brainless confused men were these?

I strapped my knife purse to my waist, took a final drag of my cigarette and threw it in the bin. Putting my head cap on, I collected a small photo card of Sam, waved at them and left.

* * *

Getting to the Fresh bar, I checked the photo card and trailed my eyes to search for Sam. I set my eyes on him and sat on the bar chair a little close to him so I could monitor his movement.

After dropping some dollar bills on the counter, the barman mixed a shot for me. I gulped it and he mixed another one immediately.

Sam waved at the barman who went to him and returned to arrange beers on a tray. “Hey, is this for that man?” I asked and the barman stared at me for a while before nodding his head.

I nodded back and gulped my shot. He wouldn’t be leaving soon if he was ordering more beers. I guessed we were going to be here for a while.

Two girls sat beside him as they all drank and enjoyed themselves, while I just sat there waiting for him to finish with his drink and die. Like I always said, I found it so thrilling that one minute you are alive and the next minute, you aren’t.

Death was such a beautiful thing, one of the most beautiful things in fact. It was a guaranteed peace and freedom from life, emotions and problems, but I found something that was both fascinating and unfair about it.

It was unfair that we could only come into the world through a woman, but we could leave it through a thousand ways. So many interesting and boring ways to leave the world.
