Hannah was everything he would ever need, and he was going to give her everything she ever wanted.
Later that morning as they sat with coffee in his living room, she declared it was her favorite room in the house.
“You haven’t even seen every room yet or the terrace.”
“You have a terrace?”
“Yes, babe, and I’ll show it to you, but first I have a question.”
“Uh-oh, am I in trouble?”
“It depends on your answer.”
“Okay.”
“Will you be my date to Rory and Ainsley’s wedding?”
She sat up. “Isn’t that next summer?”
“Yes, June something.”
“Isn’t it a little early to lock in your date?”
“See, that depends.”
“On?”
“If you agree to move in here and marry me before June, then of course I wouldn’t have to ask you to be my date. It would be assumed.”
Her eyes grew huge and the blue was amplified by tears that started to pool.
“But since I know you so well and believe you might bolt like a scaredy-cat if I proposed now, I figured just locking you in as my wedding date would serve two purposes.”
Attempting to clear her throat, she set down her coffee cup on the nearby table and stood up.
“What are those two purposes again?”
“One, I demonstrate to you just how thoroughly committed I am to us.”
“And two?” She stopped to stand in front of him and gently took his coffee cup from him to set it on the side table.
“Two, I lock in my happily-ever-after before anyone else can try to distract you.” He smiled up at her with adoration.
“And I would be your happily-ever-after?” she asked, straddling his lap for the second time that morning, before leaning down to meld her mouth to his for a passionate kiss.
“Yes, please.”
“Then, yes, I’ll be your date for their wedding and the boat trip to the Maldives.”
“And those other things?”
“You’ll just have to ask me when you’re ready.”
Kissing her was better than he’d ever imagined.
“I already know I never want to spend a single day without you. The rest is just semantics,” he said.
“I love you and our semantics.”
