“Good, because mine include Sunday family dinner at my parents’ house.”

“I can’t wait. Right after church with my family Sunday mornings.”

“No problem. Clearly, God likes me because he brought you back to me.”

Pulling him up to stand, she wrapped her arms around his waist.

“Always the charmer, Conner Maguire.”

“Only with you.”

Epilogue

“Babe, where didyou put our passports again?” Conner called out from the entryway in his condo they now shared. Six months of dating, and she finally agreed to move in with him and used her place as an office for her charitable-event-planning business. For now, she was still working as a paramedic part-time, but it was clear the charities of DC knew who to call when they wanted to host an event. Hannah’s small business was flourishing, and he certainly didn’t need or want her to worry about paying any bills. They were a team in every sense of the word, and he knew for a fact she was the only woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

“Check my bag, but don’t move them again,” she said.

Conner chuckled to himself. They had been playing keep away all week with their passports. He would almost feel bad, but the payoff was going to be so good.

“I can’t find them,” he called back.

In a flourish of flowy green fabric, Hannah walked out of the bedroom and down the hall barefoot, looking flushed and beautiful.

He leaned down to steal a kiss before he handed her the bag in question.

“You keep moving them, and then we’ll end up at the airport and they won’t let us on the flight to the Maldives.”

She set the bag down on her large suitcase, then turned away from him. It gave him just enough time to get down on one knee.

When she turned back around with an accusing look on her face, she gasped.

In his outstretched hand, Conner held a small black velvet box.

“Hannah Paletti, will you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?”

Her hands were over her mouth, and her eyes were brimming with tears, but she croaked out a yes and nodded with animation. Then as he opened up the box, she bent down on her knees and wrapped her arms around his neck while kissing him.

Careful not to drop the ring, Conner enveloped her in his arms and kissed her back.

“You are an amazing man and I’m not sure I deserve you, but I’m going to spend my entire life loving you,” she said with her forehead against his and her lips trembling.

“Well said, babe, but first you have to put on this ring.”

Lifting her left hand, Conner pushed the teardrop diamond over her finger where it sat in a thin band. It was a perfect fit.

“Woah, are you sure this thing should be on my finger? Maybe it should sit in a safe at a high-security bank.”

Laughing, he pulled her up to stand.

“Don’t worry. It’s insured, but maybe you should be tucked away in a vaulted high-security condo and never let out.” He picked her up like his new bride and carried her back to their bedroom.

“As long as you promise to stay with me,” she breathed before she kissed him again. “We’re going to be late for our flight.”

“No, we won’t. I lied about the time so I could propose and get a little extra time to prove how much I love you.”

“My fiancé is so thoughtful and so sneaky. I’m such a lucky girl.”

“You’re about to be,” he teased, lowering her to the bed.

“Oh, no. It’s my turn for a few surprises.”

Lifting her dress up over her head, he found another one of her sinfully sexy pieces of lingerie.

“Love of my life,” he said as she lowered her body to sit on his lap.

“Forever and ever, my love.”
