"What's wrong?" I'm on high alert, sensing that something terrible has happened.

As he wipes his tears, I watch him with a heavy heart. His eyes are red and puffy, and he looks so vulnerable.

"I'll be back." He leans in, and I feel his soft lips on mine. It's a gentle kiss, full of love and sadness. I close my eyes and savor the moment. Without a word, he turns and walks out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

Skylar makes her entrance with a sense of urgency. I sit up straight in my hospital bed, observing her every movement. Her eyes dart around the room, taking in her surroundings before she turns to me. "Oh, my God. Scar, what happened? I came as soon as I heard."

Fake. Fake. Fake.Bitch should get an award for her performance.

I stare at her, my voice laced with disbelief. "What are you doing here, Skye?" I ask, my eyes scanning her face for any hint of compassion.

"What do you mean?" she responds, slightly defensive. She steps closer, her heels clicking against the linoleum floor, until she's standing at the foot of my bed. “Dad called and told me what had happened. I was worried."

Bullshit.

Suddenly, the door swings open, and a surge of people enter—Maverick, Mom, Dad, and two detectives. Their sudden arrival fills me with unease, and I can't help but wonder what is going on.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Ricky snarls at Skylar.

One of the officers holds him back with a firm grip and gives him a warning look. "Hi, Scar. My name is Detective Stone, and this is my partner, Detective Hans." Detective Stone pulls a chair beside me while his partner stays at the door as if blocking it.

"Scar, can you elaborate on your connection with Cole Lawton?" Stone inquires, pen poised over his notebook.

I hesitate for a moment before responding. "After Seth passed away, Cole and I started spending more time together. This went on for about a month."

Stone nods, his eyes fixed on me. "And what happened the last time you saw him?"

I take a deep breath, my mind racing back to that night. "We went out to a party at the frat house. I remember us having a drink and dancing."

Stone jots down some notes before asking, "Do you recall how much you had to drink?"

I stop for a moment, wracking my brain to remember the events of that night. "As far as I can recall, I only had one drink."

The detective leans forward, his eyes fixed on mine. "Can you tell me more about that night? What's the last thing you remember?"

"I was dancing with Cole," I say, closing my eyes to focus. "And then I suddenly felt really dizzy. My head spun so much that I couldn't keep my eyes open."

Detective Stone nods, jotting down notes on his notepad. "And what happened after that?"

My heart races as I take a deep breath. "He took me up to his room," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.

"And then?" the detective presses, his voice gentle yet insistent.

"Then I woke up disoriented and dizzy. Pain and blood between my legs." As I retell the series of events, I raise my gaze to meet Maverick's eyes, only to find them brimming with tears. The sight of his pain is too much for me to bear, and I avert my gaze, unable to confront his heartache.

"I made two phone calls," I continue, “one to Maverick and one to Gem. I couldn't get in touch with Maverick, but as I was going to tell Gem what happened, Cole barged in and snatched the phone from me."

I watch as Stone looks at me with concern in his eyes. The tears are streaming down my face, and I can feel the lump in my throat growing bigger by the second.

"Scar, the events that occurred that night with Cole leaked to the media. Did Cole Lawson rape you?" he asks gently.

I nod my head, unable to speak. The memories of that day flood back to me, and I feel like I'm reliving it all over again.

"Can I ask why you didn't report it?" Stone's voice is soft, but the question cuts me like a knife.

I take a deep breath, trying to steady my voice. "Because no one would've believed me," I say, my words barely above a whisper. "Knowing who he and his father were, I didn't think I stood a chance."
